What teachers does USNA require SOEs from? I know USMA requires SOEs from my math, chemistry, English, and PE teacher and USAFA requires SOEs from my math, chemistry, and English teacher. What teachers should fill out my SOEs for USNA? Also, just to clarify, these SOEs FOR ALL SAs are just a questionnaire, right? Or do my teachers have to right a letter? I already asked my chemistry, math, and English teacher for LORs for my nomination and SA applications.

The Academy needs 3 letters from your high school: 11th grade math teacher, 11th grade English teacher, school official (typically your counselor). Once you put them in your application, they will receive an email from the USNA instructing them how to send the LORs back. You also, have optional LORs references, usu 1 to 3 people.

USNA doesn't ask for Letters of Recommendation (LOR). It is actually more of an evaluation ..Candidate puts the appropriate teacher contact information into system, and USNA send the Evaluation form directly to teacher. (It is a good idea to tell the teacher to expect the email, and check spam filters, etc. as there are occasionally issues with delivery). The school official letter is actually a verification of your reported activities, etc.

You can also submit additional LOR's ..this is actually a relatively new thing, and there is a lot of debate /discussion on SAF about the optional LOR's.

@OldNavyBGO is correct, the letters from school are SOEs, not LORs, my semantic mistake. So, 1 SOE, each, from 11th grade Math and English teachers and the counselor confirming your academic record. IMO optional LORs won't hurt.

So the SOEs are letters written by the teachers?

When will the portal open so we can send the SOE to them?

@Old Navy BGO is always spot on.

Regarding spam - my son’s school email system didn’t send it to spam. Their email system intentionally blocked it from even hitting spam folders.

Iirc - the principal and guidance counselor filling out the school profile and vouching for his resume had to give their personal emails.

You can’t send it, USNA sends it to them directly. Last year the portals opened and things were sent in July/August. I agree with the poster below though, we had issues with school email addresses and security walls. Had to have multiple meetings with the school tech team to fix. Personal email addresses may be simpler.
