Someone in my district received an appointment

I am applying to the USMA class of 2025. None of my congressmen and women have even had the nomination interviews yet. I just found out that someone in my district just received an appointment because and he had a service nomination from his father's service. Is there still a chance that I will get an appointment.

Thank you

Did the other person get the presidential nom, which has no bearing on you admission.

There is always a chance until you get a no.

There are multiple ways to receive a nomination. Since they got one from a service connection that benefits you because that is one less person who will be applying for a nomination from a senator and congressman. One less person you have to compete against. You can still receive an appointment as long as you get a nomination from a member of congress or VP.

I thought I heard that there is usually only one person from each congressional district that gets in.

It is usually one or maybe two from each congressional district who get appointed. That kid received a service-connected nomination, which doesn't come from your members of congress.

I suspect the majority of districts have closer to 10 nominations, not two.

You may want to read the Sticky post at the very top of the Nominations forum.

The class gets filled out with fully qualified applicants with noms from a variety of sources. Some are eligibility-based, and appointments charged to these noms are very often the first ones that appear. Once the elected officials’ slates (lists of up to 10 nominated candidates for each vacancy) are in, the spigot opens a bit wider.

For some detailed reading on how many/where from on nominations:

My DS recently received an appointment that was Service Connected. For the other applicants in our Congressional District this can be viewed as a good thing. My DS was going to compete for a MOC nomination but has withdrawn his name from the slate for both Senators and Congressman.
in effect it is one less candidate competing for the MOC nomination.

I apologize, I meant 1 or 2 from each congressional district who get appointed. Thanks for the catch!
Last year in NJ there were more than one Congressional slates that all 10 received appointments and others with up to 8 out of 10 appointed, not all appointees accepted however, some chose USNA, USAFA and Ivy’s. To say that only 1 or 2 will receive appointments from competitive districts in NJ is incorrect.

What I'm saying is in general--NJ is HUGE exception, mainly because we have so many LOAs and people in the top 150.

Don't despair! The same things happened to DS last year (someone else in District got actual appointment first) but there are many things that happen behind the curtain that you don't know about. There are some SCHOOLS even that have more than one person appointed. What counts is to get "A" (any) nomination (and be 3Q, obviously) so that you can get to the NWL. Once there, the odds are better (40-50%) for getting an appointment, but any nomination gets your foot in the door.

No, it is not online, but the NJ Field Force prepares a presentation with these stats. Last year there were 70+ NJ candidates that received an appointment.

I don't think a FFR is sharing (or has) a "Top 150 list" or a list of LOAs by state. Saying that 70+ candidates received an appointment is not the same thing.

First of all, FFRs have that information...Of course they won't share who's on it and who's not. But they do have statistics for these information. I happen to know there are 24 LOAs in NJ right now. But that's from me having my small talks with FFRs. Also 70+ appointees show that there are significant number of LOAs and top 150 WCS candidates since NJ only has 12 districts. NJ is damn competitive. If you would like to see these figures, I can share.

Yes, we would all like to see your figures, the Top 150 list (even without names), the "24 LOAs in NJ right now" info, and anything else you have regarding these issues. Obviously, the "small talk" is just hearsay and can't be "shared" so to speak, but you seem to be far more privy to info that people with years of experience and connections have ever been told or seen.

Your FFR must be one of the only FFRs in the entire country that has this info (or will admit it exists let alone share it) as there seems to be no other reported instance on SAF of someone having such access, the existence of the "Top 150" list, etc. The fact that this FFR has it, but also shared your WCS with you and told you "your ranking" in NJ is just simply incredible.

Never said the top 150 list was shared with me so I can't answer your question. You also seem to enjoy targeting people for what they say.
