    Hi Everyone,

I received my appointment to USMA in March of this year. Recently, I was pulled over and issued a ticket for speeding. I am not fully aware of the Academy's policy on issues like this -- do I need to report the driving citation to USMA and, if so, how would I go about doing that? With less than a month before R-Day, I am certainly hoping this will not have any effect on my appointment. Any input would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

How fast were you going and how much over the limit was it?

My DS had the same exact thing happen. Less than a week after getting his clean record forms signed by the Sheriff and local police. 45 in a 35.

He sent an email with a copy of the ticket to his admissions rep that he dealt with. They thanked him and said “no worries” just get it paid, take the class, send them proof. We used The Ticket Clinic to get it reduced and take an online driver safety class. Paid the fine and emailed the final adjudication to USMA.

I do think if the ticket is egregious enough and/or the fine is over $200 you may have more hoops to jump through.

Moral— let them know asap and deal with it asap and you should be fine. No pun intended.

Thank you all for your responses. I emailed my RC with the details of the citation.

No kidding. The life you save may be your own.

Think of speed in terms of miles per minute to your destination.

    20-mile drive.
    80 MPH = 1.333 miles per minute = 15 minute drive.
    65 mph = 1.083 miles per minute = 18 minutes, 27 seconds.

Do you really need to get there 3 minutes and 27 seconds earlier?

About 10 miles over the speed limit on an open interstate? Personally not a big deal. 10 miles over the speed limit in a 35 zone? Big deal. That’s normally an area with pedestrians and maybe even kids. Hitting and maybe even killing a pedestrian/child will haunt you for the rest of your life.
