Hi, I'll be attending a SNWC at TAMU in November. Has anyone on this forum went to it? Or DD/DS went to it and would like to tell me about your/their experience?

My DS did it a few years back. It was a great experience! It was the most organized of the visits we did. If you know what you want to study, take advantage of the visit and meet with the department you are interested in. Those appointments can be made through the specific academic department. The ROTC staff at TAMU was extremely helpful throughout the entire process. My DS received a 4YR-AROTC on the 1st board and was not yet accepted (Out of State and Engineering Major). Shortly after my DS told the detachment about his scholarship, he was accepted. I am convinced that the AROTC Scholarship helped my DS get in. He ended up choosing The Citadel due to it being closer to home. The campus is beautiful with many historically significant landmarks. We also enjoyed our visit to the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library - a must see if you have not visited it. Good luck and glad that they are having these visits in person.

My son participated November 2019 pre-Covid. Pick a unit that may fit your interest. You attend evening formation and evening chow the first night. You go to class the next day. TAMU is close to home and we are an Aggie family but my knucklehead ended up at a SMC farthest from home.
Gigem!!!

Thanks for the info. I'll be applying for AFROTC on the 2nd board(waiting for better ACT score). I'm the same (OOS and Engineering Major). Hopefully I get accepted to TAMU outright, but good to know that the Corps/ROTC help if I get a ROTC scholarship.

I've been talking to SQ-21 so I'll be staying with them. Also yeah I'm the same as your kid haha, I live 30 min away from The Citadel but my #1 school of choice is 17 hours away in College Station. gig 'em

This is great to know. My ds is probably going in November as well and just got an email from a cadet in one of the AF squadrons. I (mom) really want TAMU to shine for him so that he's excited about a non-SA option. Ds is a top 25% review engineering major because he is homeschooled. Stats say he should get in but you never know unless you are an auto admit. He had a good talk with the PMS at UTSA yesterday during his AROTC interview on the difference between going to the Corps at TAMU and regular ROTC at a non-SMC. PMS is a TAMU grad so it was an informative and balanced conversation. It really got him thinking about non-SA options and applying to UTSA (LOL!)

We went to the TAMU-New Mexico game a few weeks ago and it was eye-opening for this non-native Texan. Not only my first SEC football game but TAMU takes it to a whole 'nother level.

You need to check with TAMU about out of state tuition. Unless you are a 4 year ROTC scholarship winner, TAMU may charge you out of state tuition. At one time TAMU waved out of state tuition for cadets.

I talked to them and they said if I qualify for $4,000 in scholarships from TAMU(corps, academic, etc), they'll authorize me instate tuition.

Yes. TAMU states if you earn $4000 in scholarships from the school you can qualify for in-state. My DS is at Galveston and the License Option there also qualifies for in-state. For us, it made his going there cheaper than the schools closer to us in the North East.

TAMU best kept secret nationwide. If you want to work in maritime industry attending TAMU at the Port of Galveston/Port of Houston is the best place in the country. Many kids will go to TAMU-G to get into the back door for TAMU-CS. Gigem Sea Aggies!!!
