Hello,

I am currently working on my NASS application.

I am to the point where it asks for your club sports, varsity sports, and those with varsity letters.

I had never considered it a sport, but this past semester I received a varsity letter for JROTC. It is just like my varsity track and xc ones. Does this make JROTC a varsity sport?

I'd love to include it because we have a State Champ. team.

Thanks

Is it like a JROTC rifle team or drill team? Or just a member of the JROTC unit at your school? I'd say Rifle and Drill would be for the sports, and being a member would be under extracurriculars.

Depending on what element of JROTC, you may have several areas - like poster above, was it for rifle/drill/PT competition/Raider etc? You might also have other EC notables such as Cyberteam or JLAB in addition to the main JROTC unit.

I am our Marksmanship team commander, and a member of our Drill, Academics, PT, and Personal inspection team.

However my letter was just for "NJROTC"

We were the #1 unit for North and South Carolina as well as competing and placing in Navy Nationals. Does this mean I can put down 1 for "How many special awards for sports such as All-Star/All-State/District/City or County have you received?"

Thanks

Good luck on your application!

Our son is in the same boat, no pun intended. MCJROTC: JLAB, Orienteering, PT Team, Color Guard, Robotics, Tennis and submitted his app today. The web form makes it easy to select varsity letters for sports. Perhaps the notion of varsity letters for JROTC activities is newish. Maybe you'll serve together someday. Goooo Navy!!

Put it all down. My DS got a NJROTC letter for orienteering and drill team. Our orienteering and drill teams go to nationals every year. Leadership positions on those teams also are good experience. In fact, being an armed basic drill team commander and teaching the freshmen drill is very close to the kind of thing a junior offer does.

DS also received a Varsity letter in JROTC. He was drill commander, exhibition drill commander and the team was South Jersey champs in drill and raiders. In his case, I believe it helped him on the leadership end because he only had 2 other varsity letters(cross country and karate).

Thanks all for the feedback.

I did end up putting it down- forgot to mention I am also part of JROTC Color Guard and Orienteering; I get my competing in.

Thanks and good luck to any other applicants!
