Data suggests that the least at risk for COVID-19 complications are those that are young, in shape and without pre-existing medical conditions. Does that resemble any group you know?

That resembles the class of 2020 who don’t know yet if they are graduating live or virtual. Now that SLE is cancelled I would expect the decision cycle to turn to graduation and summer training issues regarding the other three classes. Then, after that is complete they will finalize whatever parallel planning they are doing for R day.

Keep in mind that big Army has also temporarily frozen accessions for basic training and all PCS movements are still on hold with a risk to be extended through late summer for the general force. Leadership is monitoring and making daily decisions about balancing risk and mission requirements. It’s still only April. When a decision gets made, it’ll be pushed out by the Academy and done so with the best interests of preserving the force, the Corps, West Point community, and mission.

By the title of your thread, I’m guessing you’re suggesting that because Cadet Candidates are “low risk” regarding the Wuhan Coronavirus that it shouldn’t have an impact RDay?
Considerations are being made regarding any decisions that may have negative impact on the entire West Point community. There are people there who could potentially be put at risk by bringing in people carrying the virus.
The whole situation is messing up nearly every single part of our lives right now. Every day seems like Groundhog Day when I get up.
Hopefully we are getting closer to getting back to near normal life soon, and we can give the 2020 kids a proper form of graduation. Then a warm welcome can be given to the Cadet Candidates by my DS and his Firstie buddies!

Yes, good point. But the risk is not only to New Cadets undergoing training, but also to those who come in contact with them should they asymptotically carry coronavirus.

To get to R-Day New Cadets have to travel and come in contact with the general public, many by airplane through NYC airports. During training, they will also come in contact with Officers, NCO"s, and civilians of all ages. Those people will then go home to their families, some of whom may have pre-existing medical conditions.

I presume the title is meant to suggest that R-Day will occur on June 29th as scheduled. No change to R-Day has been made and it may occur on June 29th. However, West Point's response plan to COVID-19 considers a delay possible, and sets a goal of having R-Day sometime in the first half of July.

Before R-Day can occur, the cadre must return to West Point and complete all of the preparation and training that needs to be accomplished prior to R-Day. That will not occur until the Class of 2020 has been brought back, graduated, commissioned, and out-processed. Still possible with return of 2020 tentatively planned for mid-May, but time is tight.

For this years summer training, graduation will happen June 13th, that is finalized and the first priority. The second priority of West Point is the reception of '24 and BEAST. What that may look like, no one knows right now, but it will happen some point during the summer and there will be some type of CBT.

My graduation was moved to mid-July, really hoping that CBT stays the same so I keep my reason to miss it. I'm more than okay with not walking at graduation.
