State School Requirement

Hi, is there a requirement that one of your top 5 listed schools be a "state school", whether that school is in-state or out-of-state?

For NROTC, not a requirement. If someone opts for MSI, then one of the 5 choices needs to be an HBC or an HHE.

Last year when I applied for NROTC, I had to put an in-state public school in my top 3. Not sure if that changed or not.

For AROTC I believe it was a requirement. I think it was in-state public, but I can't be 100% sure of that. My son was awarded the scholarship to his #1 (private), #2 (private), and #4 (in-state public).

I just confirmed through Naval Service Training Command Code N92 (Scholarship Processing) that there is NO requirement for in state college selection as one of your 5 choices.

Any recruiters telling your DS or DD otherwise should be politely recommended to contact NSTC. They may be using recruiting references from 4 years ago when there was a requirement. And this is for NROTC. I don't know how AROTC or AFROTC handles this.

AFROTC does not require your 'top 5' to be either public or private
