How much time will we have to write and should we bring up our own writing supplies? And if we do bring our own supplies what all should I bring?

My DS had never written a snail mail letter in his life, before heading to BCT. I had very low expectations of receiving any letter from him. Once there, he sent us (his parents) about 2-3 per week. He also managed to send a letter or two to his grandparents and sent his girlfriend letters... I'm guessing she received at least as many as we did. USAFA provides some pretty cool USAFA stationary. Stamps (supposedly) are available to purchase at the C-Store, but my son told me they ran out quickly. My son did run out of stationary and was concerned about running low in his letters, but did manage to secure more. I'd bring a couple of books of stamps, if I were you.....

Stamp prices will go up on July 1st so buy a bunch now. The forever stamp will go from 58 cents to 60 cents.

I'd bring 40 stamps and a similar amount of stationary your nightmare as a basic is not being able to write your family/friends.

You don’t have to have fancy stationery.

Plain white envelopes and a medium ruled tear off pad from Staples will make your family just as happy.

We did index cards and made very basic homemade postcards in my Army days. Do not not need to write a ton, just a quick proof of life and a short how it is going note.

I’m adding a pre addressed stamped envelope with a sheet of plain paper in each of my letters with the hopes of receiving letters.

I bought note cards thinking this might be a good idea.

USAFA provides stationary to basic cadets. They provide stamps, envelopes, and paper. I wrote a letter 1-2 times per week and I had enough to get through. If you want to bring your own pre labels, that’s smart, but not needed.
