I got my STCW Certifications at MITAGS, how much does that help my application if i am an otherwise average candidate

Good for you! The Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) will certainly indicate initiative on your part. However, keep in mind that if you get into KP, you likely will have to take the course over since it is part of the required curriculum and is given prior to the sea experience.
