Still waiting on a LOA or Rejection

My DS emailed his admissions counselor and she left a VM yesterday (I think it's a "you did not make it" VM) but she said that we would know by the end of next week if we did not make it in. DS is hoping against all hope for a prep appt. he was bounced out of USNA at 10:00 last night! He does NOT have a nomination but he does have a recommendation to the prep school from our MOC.

Initially when he received this recommendation from our MOC this same person had no idea what it was, but by the VM yesterday it was like everyone received this and it did not count for anything so needless to say we are despondent today and glad Plan B is also wonderful.
Every applicant is considered for PS, but I do not think everyone gets recommendation for PS from MOC. My DS letter from his congressman specifically says nomination for academy appointment. I would think that specific recommendation for PS from MOC makes chanses higher , if DS/DD is qualified for PS. Good luck to you.
My DS hopes that you are correct. He is qualified, we just hope they can appreciate it! Thank you so much for the encouragement!

If you receive a Falcon Foundation Scholarship does that equate to a TWE?
I'll let someone more qualified answer, but probably. It's hard to believe they would offer both, but a Falcon Scholarship essentially means it is yours to lose and you are just going to have redshirt year. That's a big congratulations in my book!

I think the AFA has finished what they call their "Regular Selection" process, meaning they've filled up the 530ish slots designated for Senator/Congressional Nominations. Now, everyone else is in the National Pool and this makes it a lot harder on the Academy to pick and choose who gets an appointment. I believe that there are still a lot of slots to be filled, but the silence is concerning. I haven't heard of any TWEs yet, and don't think that they'll start doing those until late this month maybe early May. It would be great if candidates didn't have to make a pressing decision a couple of days before the due date of April 15th. But, only time will tell, so keep your chin up! We still have a week before then. I'm in the waiting game with you, and I continue to compulsively check my portal and this forum haha. Sometimes bad habits die hard.
If that statement is true about the 530ish slots, does that mean USAFA is only halfway done with appointments since they're likely to appoint around 1200?

I think the offers of appointment so far are much higher; about 75% are out.

If you add up MOC (535+100), Presidential (100), VP (5), Prep School (150?) and Falcon Foundation (50?), my cocktail napkin math is at least 940 offers. If 1250 offers is the ceiling, there are about 300 offers coming from the NWL.

Good luck to all!

Those receiving a Falcon Scholarship have already been denied a direct appointment for the current year. But as has been already said, the FS is a golden ticket for an appointment the following year as long as the Falcon Scholar does as instructed and stays out of trouble.

Yes and No on the TWE. A Falcon Scholarship is different than a TWE. A TWE is a "denial for direct entry", a Falcon Scholarship is a "scholarship to one of the Prep Schools", which equates to "we are interested in you, but want you to go one more year and if your grades are good we will take you next year". Most Falcon Scholarships get a direct entry the next year. You are somewhat correct that it equates to a TWE in terms that you did not get a direct entry this year, but you are getting an offer which will probably gain you a direct entry the next year. I agree that a Falcon Scholarship is a big congratulations.

Last year there were ca. 1500 offers of appointments and around 1200 accepted. So probably around 2/3 of appointments offered by now.

Just for clarification on terminology, there is no chance of any candidate getting an LOA at this point. LOAs are used on highly sought-after candidates and are normally given very early in the process, up to the end of the nomination timeframe. For the record, in Academy terminology LOA stands for Letter of Assurance and guarantees an appointment as long as a nomination is received and the candidate is qualified.

I'm curious to know roughly what % of LOAs go to recruited athletes vs non-athletes? Can any of you ALO's chime in on this question?
