Hello, I have applied to USCGA and was disqualified due to history of dislocation, subluxation or instability of the shoulder. I was injured playing football and had surgery to repair a minor labrum tear. I fully recovered and was cleared for all activities and sports with no restrictions. I submitted all requested paperwork and medical records and I am now under waiver review. Although I was cleared by the surgeon 4 months after the surgery there was nothing in my medical file stating that. I was recently seen by the surgeon for a one year post op visit and he supplied a letter stating that I am fully healed and cleared for all activities with no restrictions. My question is should I submit that letter so it can be included in my records for review? I appreciate any advice, thank you.

I'm sure Larry Mullen will give an official response, but in my opinion I would say yes, absolutely. That is what my daughter did. She did not want to take the chance that the SA would not request that information themselves. We actually took her for additional tests that showed the issue she was DQ'd for had no impact on her or her potential to serve, and the specialist wrote a letter stating that. If you already have a similar letter, there is no reason not to submit it and request that it be added to your record. USCGA could still ask for additional information, but at least they will have a more complete picture of your medical situation when they first look at your file.

1. To quote a Great American, "I would say yes, absolutely." :wiggle:
2. If you have documentation that "may" alter your medical status or waiver, it would probably be better that DoDMERB have it, than you retaining it .:yikes:
3. Standing by to receive at Lawrence.e.mullen.civ@mail.mil as a .pdf attachment

Thank you Mr. Mullen, I apologize for not getting back immediately, I just got back from school and practice - email is sent. I sincerely appreciate the advice. This forum has been extremely helpful for those of us unfamiliar with the process.
