Just wondering whether or not substandard depth perception prior to entering the academy is disqualifying for a pilot slot upon graduation?

You might have better luck posting your question on the DODMERB site. Larry Mullen (who is the deputy director of DODMERB!) usually responds within 24 hours. (Which I think is absolutely amazing!) He may need you to email him some more info...read a few of the posts and you will get an idea of how to proceed.

My son is currently a C2C and only discovered once he got to the Academy that his depth perception is marginal. He recently had to choose between going for a pilot slot and hoping for a waiver (which there was no guarentee he would get) or selecting from his top choices for non pilot slots. It was really tough decision, but he decided to go for a pilot slot and let the chips fall as the may so that he will not end up wondering "what if" down the road. However, he also had to acknowledge that should he get the slot and the waiver, he could be DQ'd anytime up to the day he reports to UPT, at which time he may have to settle for a non rated job that was not one of his top picks.
