I got into the IB Diploma Programme this past week, and am currently choosing my courses. Is there any suggestions on classes that may make me a more competitive candidate for USAFA, or college in general? I want to do something in the medical field regardless if I go into the service or not.

I am currently taking Trig (past year Algebra 2), Hon US His, Hon Chem & Physics, Hon World Lit, Marketing, AFJROTC2 (science credit), Weights, and Spanish 2. I will be taking the pre-DP Spanish 3 next year, and will do DP Spanish 4 Senior Year.

The only course I have official so far is AFJROTC3 and ToK (a required course), which I will be keeping. I am hoping to do SL Physics, SL Bio, HL Chem, and SL Math, but I haven't officially decided on anything yet. For people here who have done IB, or are currently in it, could you give me an advice? For those of you who don't know the DP requirements and can still help me out, I can have no more then 8 classes a semester for DP credit. HL Chem is 4 semesters, Physics is 3 semesters, ToK is 2 semesters, SL Bio is 2 semesters. I am required to have at least one History DP credit, and 2 sciences, as well as 4 semesters of math and four of English.

Thanks in advance!

I'm currently a senior in the IB Diploma Program at my high school. In my junior year, I took English HL, history HL, French HL, math SL, physics SL, and TOK. My school requires that we take English and history as HLs, and I chose French as my third HL because I enjoy it. I'm currently taking English HL, history HL, French HL, chem SL, TOK, and AP calc.

I would say just make sure you can actually enroll in all of the courses you want to. I believe you are required to take a certain number of history, English, and foreign language courses as part of the Diploma Program, so make sure you can still satisfy the IB requirements while also taking all of the science and math classes you want to take.

You could probably take the SL bio and math exams your junior year, then take exams in physics SL, chem HL, and your other 2 HLs (Maybe history and English to complete your requirement?) your senior year. As for the remaining math credits, I'm not sure how your school runs things, but maybe you could take AP calc to satisfy the 4 semester requirement?

Hope I could help! Granted, I'm not a USAFA Cadet, but I did receive word this week that I earned an appointment taking the classes I mentioned above :thumb:

Thanks for the reply! I haven't been on here since February, so sorry for bumping this topic up so much.

I ended up taking HL Lit, HL Bio, HL Chem, HL 20th Cent World His, DP Spanish 3, AFJROTC 3, Math Studies, and Gym. My plan for math is to take Pre-Calc over the summer, and AP Calc next year, along with a normal or honors physics class.

I'm hoping AFA likes my course schedule, and if not, at least I'm taking classes I'll semi-enjoy!

In your experience, did you like Physics SL? I keep hearing it's particularly difficult, especially with 7 IAs.

Thanks!
