When you are at the Naval Academy, are you still able to do Summer Internships? Or is there no time at all? I was wondering because I see that on some USNA websites I see there are USNA sponsored internships. I wanted to know if you are able to go outside of that spectrum and internship for other companies? How much time is given for this? If anyone has any information on internships that would be great, thank you.

My DD has had two internships while at USNA. Within limits, you can do summer internships:

- You cannot accept outside pay
- You cannot sign a confidentiality agreement without Navy approval (potential conflict of interest)
- Any private company (not sure if it applies to non-profit orgs) must be on an "approved companies" list before you would be allowed to do an interhship with them. Getting a company approval takes time, as in months, so plan ahead, if you have something specific in mind.
- In some instances, doing an internship MIGHT require you to give up your leave block. (We've had it happen both ways)
- Once you have a good idea of what major you want, you should be able to discuss internship possibilities with department faculty
