Class of 27 appointee here. Is it possible to do a paid summer internship at a private company as a cadet? I was awarded a scholarship from one of the FAANG companies. Part of the award was a guaranteed paid summer internship after freshman year. I think there's the possibility to delay the offer to 2nd degree summer. It would be nice to get the experiance, but the outside pay seems to be a potential conflict of interest. Can someone with knowledge of Summer Research or related programs offer any clarity?

During USAFA summer periods, you will have three 3-week sessions. You'll have a military commitment two of the 3-weeks sessions (assigned by USAFA) so a paid summer internship at a private company would be highly unlikely.

Summer after Junior year, many STEM cadets do summer internships, but they are generally with DoD organizations (AFRL, AFIT, etc). They also usually take 3-6 weeks, with the longer ones only being an option if you give up leave. That has been changing a bit and on rare occasions, it's possible to go even longer, but again, that is the summer AFTER junior year, not before. It may be possible to work out a way to do the internship then, but it will take some work and there will definitely not be any guarantees. It will likely also depend on your major and plans for an AFSC.
