Summer Seminar

My son received an offer to attend West Point Summer Leadership Experience. He is very excited! He also applied to USNA Summer Seminar, but hasn’t heard anything yet. Looking for advice on how to proceed. I think Navy might be his top choice, but don’t want to lose this opportunity. Thanks for any advice.

If accepted and comfortably in your budget, I would recommend attending both. My DS found them to be very different experiences and helped tremendously in his decision making process. If the weeks overlap, it may be possible to work with the academy to switch weeks.

USNA summer seminar invitations usually starts coming out in March.

AS PLC said, NASS decisions will start coming out in mid-March. Since it's rolling admissions, the earlier you apply, the earlier you'll receive a decision. Also as others have recommended, I would wait until he has both decisions back to determine which one he can attend (hopefully both) as long as you don't miss a deadline for either. You can request to switch sessions for both NASS and SLE, but both have stated that this is not guaranteed.

I went to the first NASS session last year, on the bus heading to the academy lots of applicants were talking about having done SLE the previous week. They all had fond memories of it shooting guns, marching, and whatnot, and it seemed to prepare them for Summer Seminar. If you can do both I would recommend it, I wish I had.
