Hi Are we able to go to mass this sunday at church? Thanks

I was told you couldn't go while indoc was going on

The Academy cannot keep you from Church, but with that said, they requested that Parent's do not attend Church during Indoc. After Indoc and before Parents weekend you may attend, but you are not allowed to sit with your child and will only be able to speak with them for 5 min after church. Technically, Parents are NOT suppose to visit Campus until Parents Weekend. Time to let go Mom & Dad...been there...I know it's hard. Still is!

It really is in the best interest of your Candidate if you leave them alone and wait until Parent's Weekend to see them. They are in good hands, and they need to learn how to be on their own.

You are a wise Mommy, thanks for the gentle reminder to us all. As way of comfort to those worrying- there are kids this age who are already through Paris Island and deployed. (Maybe at Mass this Sunday we could pray extra for those parents)

Amen to that!

And for those that don't know, Paris Island is one of (if not THE one) the U.S. Marine Corp bases that conduct the 13 (THIRTEEN) week Marine Corp Boot Camp. No calls for 12 weeks and only one letter per week.

Chapel Policy

The following is now posted on the Parents Page regarding church services:

"UNITED STATES MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY
KINGS POINT
COMMANDANT’S INSTRUCTION 1-09
July 31, 2008
SUBJ: CHAPEL AND PARENT VISITATION
1. During Plebe Indoctrination
a. During Plebe Indoctrination, Plebe Candidates may not sit with parents or converse with them after chapel services. OICs and DIs will politely inform parents of this policy if a parent attempts to make contact with their Plebe Candidate.
b. Parents, friends and visitors are welcome to attend services at the Chapel and may sit anywhere except for the designated Plebe Candidate spaces, as assigned by the Chaplain. Further, an announcement will be made on the bulletin and during the service announcements requesting parents to respect the policy of no communication.
2. After Plebe Indoctrination – After Plebe Indoctrination, beginning the Sunday following the start of the academic year and between the hours of 0930 and 1400, Plebe Candidates may sit with parents and family members at chapel and visit with them during this period. Plebe Candidates must stay within the academy limits during this time frame, unless special liberty has been approved.
