SWAB summer “graduation”

For those that have gone through Day 1, what time should we expect to be finished with activities? I have heard around 3pm.

Also, any opinions on attending weekend events prior to Day 1? I understand this will be the only time to see the actual Chade Hall living quarters?
We were done around 4 last year. It was raining which moved swearing in indoors and that delayed things. I recommend you bring some food and drink for your swab to eat during your goodbye time after swearing in. My son gulped down a sub.

The only event we attended over the weekend before was a picnic held by the sports team and we were glad we went to that. Chase Hall is open that weekend, but it will also be open during Parents Weekend and that is nicer since you can see lived in rooms.

Thank you!

Wrap up was around 4:00p last year. I'm not sure which events you're referring to, but I wouldn't sign up for the program where the cadets spend the night there the weekend prior. (sorry, I forgot the name). This will be the last weekend they will get to spend with their family for a while and we chose to spend it together. That was absolutely the best decision for us. We spent time together walking around Mystic and eating out at some great restaurants. I remember we went on a campus tour (all of us) and then my cadet met with the sports team on the Sunday prior to Day 1. (Tip: your cadet will be dropping off their sports bag with the coach on this day. PACK SNACKS IN HERE, in addition to the sports stuff. When they get "coaches time" during Swab Summer, they will then have some extra snacks. ;) )

We are from the west coast, so we came 3 days prior. That helped with time change adjustment, no stressing over any delayed flights, and just getting settled in to the East coast.

I don't remember Chase Hall being open that weekend, other than seeing one room downstairs. Parents Weekend is great to see their living area and they will be able to show you around much better at that point, too.

IMO wait til parent weekend. They are still adjusting. Some try to Eagle Chase too. This is hit and miss. Try to meet up with other families who arrive to the academy early. You have about 15 minutes around 3 to say your goodbyes and last minute photos. 🥹

There’s a shoulder board ceremony on the Monday after Sea Trials and swab summer are completed. While it’s probably possible to witness, it’s not really geared towards a “public” event. Parents weekend will be the first big event and I’d especially encourage any 4/c Parents to make that weekend if able.
Are the cadets allowed to stay off campus over Parents Weekend with their families?

It depends on a lot of things. By Parents Weekend, they will have some privileges which may include a "long", meaning requesting an overnight. And sometimes, a "long" is granted for everyone who isn't restricted or who doesn't have duty on holiday or special weekends. But even if this is the case, there are things to keep in mind:
  1. If your cadet has duty at any time during a given day, they cannot leave campus at all that day. There are 8 companies and so every 8 days your cadet's company will have duty. Your cadet should know in advance if their company has duty on one of the days of Parent's Weekend, and they should know if they have been assigned duty on one of those days. Often cadets whose parents are not coming to Parent's Weekend will volunteer to swap duty and take those duty spots, but if they can't get someone to take their spot, then they will be stuck with it. Their duty time would not be all day, but they still would not be able to leave campus at all that day. You could hang out with them on campus though.
  2. They would not be able to stay overnight off campus Thursday night. Friday is a regular class day for them.
  3. I think that they would be able to request to stay off campus on Friday night, but they have to be back early morning Saturday for reg review and other things.
  4. I think they can request to stay overnight off campus Saturday night.
  5. If they are restricted for any reason (usually as punishment for doing something wrong), then they likely won't be able to do an overnight.

Usually the Mystic Flag ceremony takes place before the swabs start heading off on Eagle. I guess it might vary year to year, and the specific date for Mystic Flag is not often posted too far in advance. Last year, all companies attended, and A-C boarded Eagle the following day.
The CGA website says its typically the end of the fourth week of swab summer.

They have the information up on the class of 2027 parent page.
