Sword/Saber presentations?

I read somewhere that swords or sabers are occasionally presented by graduating classes and/or cadets. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Graduates have the option to buy a USAFA saber at graduation.

Some cadets give them as gifts- I got one engraved and gave it to my sponsor family

Yeah, that's what I was going to have the protagonist in my current book do. One to his future wife, the other to his sponsor family.
