I applied already to TAMU-CS and I know there is The Program for System Admission (PSA) but can I apply to TAMU-G separately incase I do not get any offers from TAMU? I heard there is a NROTC unit down there and also TAMMA. Seems like a great program down there and a good backdoor to CS if I would want to transfer after a year. and a good school if I want to stay there all 4 years. End of the day, I want to be an aggie. Thanks

You can apply to TAMU-G separately. I know kids who have already gotten into TAMU-G directly but are still waiting on TAMU-CS admission decisions. I have no idea how that works with ROTC if you intend to transfer to CS. I'd be interested to know since I have 3 more kids coming down the line who are all interested in TAMU. My ds who applied this year opted out of the Galveston and McAllen PSA options becuase of ROTC. We didn't do any research on it but he said he'd rather not deal with transferring unless it was Blinn.

Is it easy to transfer to CS from Galveston outside of the various pathways?

We have a friend who is killing it at TAMU-G ETAM (3.8 GPA) and is getting ready to head to CS next year. It's been a great program for him.

My DS is a ‘22 TAMUG. A lot of engineering majors do the backdoor to CS through TAMUG. One of his besties is a NROTC scholarship student that had to start there and transferred after freshman year to CS without any issues.

ROTC at TAMUG must be in the Corp and live in Corp housing all 4 years if staying at TAMUG (unless married.)

My DS had to apply to both campuses because TAMUG was his first choice bc of his major. However if only applying to CS I believe it is one of the backdoor options if not a direct admit.

My DS has loved it there…note TAMUG is the only satellite that is still considered an Aggie and earns the ring. Tuition and all goes through CS.

Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can find out anything from the ROTC side of things. Also on Galveston's website it said this about moving up to CS.

"How do I transfer to College Station?

In short, you don't! We are part of Texas A&M University, and so moving to College Station does not involve transferring. It is as simple as changing your major to any program housed at College Station - exactly the same as it would be if you were changing from one major to another within College Station (outside of the need to move a couple of hours up the road, of course!) Please see the answer below for more details on the change of major process." https://www.tamug.edu/advising/info.html

Also do you know how long it took to find out acceptance into TAMU-G. I plan on finishing that application by the end of the week.

my DS had applied in Sept of his year and heard by Christmas. and yes, TAMUG truly is just CS but 3 hours away. It was created for the water based majors that can’t be taught land locked. But we are OOS so it probably took longer.

FYI you have to apply to both the Corp AND ROTC at TAMUG…all the info is on the website

Ok, thanks for the info. I am OOS as well haha. I will definitely have more questions in this thread in the future. Thanks for the help again.

I just submitted my application yesterday. I do have a quick question though. How much free time is there(specifically on the weekends). I know it is a military/maritime school, and thats a big commitment I get that, but I was just wondering cause Galveston is a beach town, and I'm from a beach myself, so I was just wondering how much time I get to spend down in Galveston away from the school(on liberty).

Also, do you have to wear your uniform in a certain radius of the campus as an underclassmen? I live near The Citadel so all the knobs wear their uniforms in downtown CHS so I was just curious. Thanks.

During the school day, you must be in Corp (or ROTC) uniform anytime you leave the dorm room to the classroom area until I believe it's like 4 or 5pm M-F but not off campus unless they are participating in a parade in Galveston. There is a LOT of free time outside of school hours. Be warned, many go home on the weekends. But there is the best fishing spot in all of Galveston RIGHT ON THE CAMPUS...think it's bass (?). If you don't have a car or a bike, you will be stuck on campus. Thankfully our DS has friends that were local with cars. We did relent and let him have his car since junior year.

Sounds good. Also, if I want to stay at TAMU-G all 4 years through NROTC, do I have the same chance to contract Naval Aviation/Aviator as I would if I went to College Station?

Sent you a private message. Don't know the percentage of job assignements but you can reach out to the Unit directly. I would think they have that data? @GWU PNS may have more insight.

@GWU PNS sent me a note he was stepping away - not sure when he will be back. He is a valuable asset; I hope he returns.
