Howdy,

Anyone accepted, going, not going, etc... post down in the thread below (including TAMU-G, Blinn-TEAM, PSA, Gateway, etc...)

Hope to see any of y'all at the loudest and the proudest military school in the country!

Gig em,

My DS is still waiting on news from USNA, but will be at TAMU majoring in political science on NROTC in the fall if baring an appointment.

My DS is also waiting on news from USNA, and NJROTC (late applicant), but he is all set with Corps of Cadets scholarship and Engineering School acceptance so with or without the national scholarship, TAMU is plan B/C (possibly Plan A- he really enjoyed the Night with the Cadets). I see him happy at Annapolis or Texas.

Same! My mom heart would almost prefer him at TAMU, as it's only 1 hour from home. I think he'll be happy at either place and I feel that TAMU might even be more "balanced".

I've been accepted into a physics major and received a corps scholarship as well (hoping for an upgrade though to get in-state tuition). Spending a night with the corps made it my #1 school. I've toured Usafa and did a virtual thing for Usna, and I have to say TAMU impressed me the most. Just personal preference though. I like the I can go into any branch of the military after TAMU cause I'm still deciding between USN, USCG, and USMC haha.

My son qualified for the instate tuition through his Corps scholarship. He received two other small academic scholarships but one of them can't be combined with the instate tuition. Regardless, it is a great deal for sure and as an out of state applicant we weren't optimistic about getting merit aid. Still waiting to hear about NROTC but pretty happy as is. I hope you get the upgrade "aggiecorps26" but if you don't get it this year I wager you would next year. We first visited A&M last summer and a cadet gave us an impromptu tour, not only selling us on the school but the Corps. My son has gotten into other top 20 engineering schools but none of them have excited him as much as TAMU. Everything we have learned about the school and the program has been very impressive. When my son spent the night last month with the Corps that was the true litmus test. He loved the other cadets. It will be a tough if he is fortunate enough to get into USNA and get an NROTC scholarship to TAMU- I honestly do not know what he will decide. It will come down to 'Let Go and Let God'.

Has your son decided on an outfit? My son has one in mind and literally won't consider any others...

Also, we're about 1 hour from TAMU. We'd be happy to pass along our contact info. I'm hoping my DS will make some TAMU contacts at NSI.

He hasn't decided on a group- he stayed with the Rough Riders and liked the boys a lot but he said they admitted they were one of the more aggressive about PT. My son is in decent athletic shape- played hockey- but if he can get an extra 1/2 hour of shuteye...
He is pretty strong academically so I can see him gravitating toward the serious students who still enjoy sports- especially talking football stats. School in our area starts around Labor Day and goes well into June so his mind just isn't there yet.

My son doesn't play a sport, but is on the PT/Drill team for JROTC. He's looking at a group that is also very heavy into PT. I'm not sure it's a great fit, but you know he's 18 and knows all the things...🤷‍♀️

My son was offered the PSA option at A&M and is mulling over whether he wants to take it. Does anyone have any insights on the PSA route? He is in at the Citadel and Norwich and was waitlisted at VA Tech. A lot of it will come down to finances (so far Norwich is by far the most affordable with or without the AROTC scholarship).

I would be curious to know how ROTC and the Corps deal with PSA.

franknd, I reached out to the Office of the Commandant at A&M with that very question and here is what I was told:

1. The student would be considered a civilian during his/her PSA year at a satellite campus (Corpus Christi; San Antonio; etc . . . ) but did have the option of joining the ROTC program at that campus for freshman year. His/her ROTC credits could then be transferred to College Station the following year;

2. Assuming a student successfully completes his/her PSA year and transfer process, he/she is guaranteed a spot in the Corps sophomore year. He/she would have to go through the freshman Corps experience during his/her sophomore year, but would be considered fully "caught up" by junior year and still able to graduate with his/her class as if he/she had started out in the Corps at College Station during freshman year;

The three downsides I see are as follows:

a. If a student just barely misses the GPA requirement during his/her PSA year, then he/she is likely stuck at the A&M satellite campus for 4 years and will miss out on the Corps experience;

b. By going this route, the student will miss out on the camaraderie of going through the freshman Corps experience with the rest of his/her graduating class;

c. There is the whole nightmare of transferring any ROTC Scholarships to the satellite school during freshman year and then to A&M during sophomore year;

Right now, my son is leaning towards taking the "bird in hand" approach of going to Norwich or the Citadel (or to VA Tech if he gets in) where he knows he will be in the Corps during his freshman year no matter what. He is intrigued enough by the A&M PSA option, however, to still be considering it, which is why we would be very interested in hearing from someone who has taken that route.

All at face value I would say go with Norwich or Citadel but….after reading through many posts on this forum of future officers grinding away to get to their vision, whether those who reapplied to the academies not just once but twice or putting in for ROTC scholarships a few times, working through medical waivers etc. if your son really wants Texas A&M Corps this is probably the path. All choices in life have uncertainties. I can’t speak to the other school choices as my son loved Texas and the Corps. BTW we live in CT. He went and saw himself there immediately. If your son hasn’t spent the night with the Corps I would suggest that so if he does choose that path he has a clear idea of what he is working for- if he wants it. I wish he and your the best while you sort this all out.

I appreciate your response whichever way your son goes. It helps me to advise any future A&M applicants who may face this because I didn't know the answer.
One other thought -- but I'll guess you've explored this already, too -- is whether they would consider him for Blinn Team. With Blinn Team they are in the Corps from Day 1 and live on the Quad and then fully integrate into A&M in year 2 or 3. Short of that, though, I think I'd be inclined to take Norwich or Citadel (or Tech) over PSA.

@franknd Hoping things work out for you. His other options sound great. I tried to get my son to apply to VT, but I think it was too close to home.

DS is going to TAMU - class of 26! He is an engineering major and has been awarded the NROTC and AROTC scholarships. (AFROTC final board is released today, so that may be in the mix.) He's still working thru an AMI at DODMERBS so we will see how it all shakes out. He spent the night with the Corps last fall and is leaning toward H-1 if he gets the NROTC scholarship.

My son received NROTC and AROTC, but will go Navy (barring an appointment to USNA, still waiting). He also is looking at H1 and spent the night with them in the fall.

All this and not a single comment about the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band, the best damn outfit on campus. LOL. Probably too late for auditions, but a great experience and all services live and serve together in the same outfits.

My son just texted that H1 and 3 other outfits are being "disbanded" for next year. Looks like he's back to the drawing board with finding a top choice outfit, if the reports are true.

My son has decided to do one more spend the night with the Corps, after finding out about H1 being disbanded. Hopefully it's a good fit!

My son liked that one too- please pass along his thoughts - it seems all of our son's are somewhat similarly predisposed.
