Any fellow future fish in the forum? Lets start getting to know each other! Also any current Aggie cadets or alumni feel free to warn us what we're in for.

Also have a scholarship I can use at Texas A&M and I plan on majoring in Comp Sci, which is the only thing keeping me hesitant due to the demands of the major. I am visiting A&M this upcoming month to make sure it's the right choice for me, maybe we could keep in contact!

Yeah, sounds great!

Hi Guys!
I'll be coming to TAMU for class of '23 as a Biology major with a 4-year Marine-Option scholarship. Are any of y'all spending the night with the Corps? I'll be doing it on Feb. 21

DS is a candidate for USAFA and USNA and also an applicant to Rice. He has not heard back from any of the three yet but will know in the next two weeks. He is also accepted to TAMU Engineering and yesterday was awarded the 4 year NROTC scholarship. He did the Spend the Night with the Corps last fall and loved it. While I hope in the next two weeks he received good news that he has choices, we went out last night to celebrate that he has now secured a path to his college degree and becoming an officer in the Navy. Our spirits are lifted and I'm getting excited to be able to claim I am an Aggie Cadet Mom.

Gig 'em! I am Class of '92. My son is doing Spend the Night with the Corps in April. A wonderful school and program. Voted happiest students in America and voted friendliest students in America in two separate college rankings. I loved it there.

I am a member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Corps of Cadet Class of '85. Great school and great organization (the Corps). It won't be easy, but nothing worthwhile ever is. Honestly, A&M is the best of both worlds, both militarily and academically. Definitely on my son's radar (in addition to the Academy choices).

Has anyone picked out a unit yet? I'm going to be joining K-2

How did you decide? There is the G-2 which is STEM. There is Sq-4 which touts that over 50% commission. I assume there is a mix of ROTC kids and cadets that will stay civilian in all the outfits? I am literally just today looking at all of this as we have been so focused on the academies.

If he is able to do so, Spend the Night with the Corps again. I have heard people say they have gone more than once to find the right unit. The TAMU campus is absolutely beautiful and so rich in tradition! Congrats to your son!

Great idea. Done. He's got a spot in April. When he went last year he stayed with an Air Force Unit. He's reserved to hang with Navy Unit Squadron 4 this time.

I researched the outfits online (reddit oddly enough has a thread) and there is a flowchart to help pick a unit on Mugdown (satire site) that the cadets I met said was weirdly accurate. I narrowed it down to K-2 and H-1 because they are commissioning focused and the hardest PT wise in the Regiments and arguably the Corps. H-1 apparently has a pretty low level of bonding within the unit so I spent the night with K-2 and enjoyed it, as was offered a reserved slot (they really want Marine contracts since they are pretty Marine focused).

Howdy y'all
I don't know if any of you are in NROTC and are going to Indoc this summer, but I just got word from the command at A&M that in order for us to be present at FOW, and NROTC midshipmen from TAMU are being assigned to 1st cycle from July 2 to July 22

What is the usual timeline for selecting/requesting a unit - Spring of senior year? My son is also spending the night with the Corps next month but is still a junior.

DS just received that email also. If he does not receive an appointment he will see you there! In box me and I will share with you who he is so yall can get to know eachother at indoc.

Howdy!

I received a Marine option NROTC contract to A&M, and am now officially the loudest and proudest member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of '23. I am looking forward to meeting you guys at FOW and some of you even before that at NROTC indoc at Great Lakes.

Gig 'em!

Howdy George! Congrats on the scholarship! DS received an email today saying that NROTC National is electing to not send students attending a Senior Military College to Indoc. DS was equally disappointed and relieved. LoL
