Any experienced parent, cadet, faculty etc able to provide input on how to approach planning and advance purchasing of round-trip airlines tickets for cadet Thanksgiving break?

Insight sharing/lessons learned would be appreciated by me and probably many others.

After LMO Tuesday is pretty nebulous guidance to advance plan a “safe” timeline as is what to target to reasonably assure the safe return by the reporting in deadline - these things have to have been successfully conquered by some previously… please share your strategy/ approach. Or must These plans be deferred and made practically last minute?

Thanks in advance.

Don't buy a round trip ticket, instead buy two one-way tickets. The return to CGA can be purchased early, as that is a known, definite, time to return. Always leave plenty of time for weather or other delays. I suggest an early arrival on the Sunday return, as that alleviates stress for all involved. The ticket home can be purchased once the LMO on Tuesday becomes more of a known. Having two one-way tickets makes it much easier to change, or cancel, one segment.

So far we just buy a ticket for early Wednesday morning because we can't get flights out on Tuesday that leave late enough. Fortunately my cadet has a local friend that can be bribed to drive him to the airport for a 5 am flight. Last year they didn't come back until January, so it was easy. This year it's the train going back because it was significantly less expensive than a flight on Sunday.

It was much easier for us to fly to CGA, pick up our cadet and then drive down to NJ to have dinner with family there. We live in CO so didn’t want to risk DS flying home for such a short time with the snow etc. They must never be late!!

Similar risk calculation here. DD will spend Thanksgiving with BF's family rather than try to fly to NM and back.

My brother is taking DD to his place in Providence. We'll Zoom a couple times between our kitchen and theirs to achieve the proper level of holiday chaos.
