"The Few, The Proud"

Not sure what you are trying to imply there, Hoops! ;)

As for tailoring, imagine the new choker whites for female...it's even worse with whites than blues!

I HATE the new blues coat. I had to do a wear test for it a few months back and absolutely hated how it looked and felt, not to mention the (dumb) logic behind why it "needs" to exist.
Similar to my old female cover (flawed though it is...), I will hold on to my "old-style" blues jacket until the absolute last second.

I was wondering how long before Hurricane posts... :D

Sorry to hear. You may write to the outgoing SecNav at his D ring address.

So glad I never had to wear the male covers. I would of hated that! I agree the buckets are pretty horrible, but they could of fixed those. The blues and choker white high collars I have heard mixed reviews. Some seem to like them and others don't.

I am confused. All women Marine Officers now wearing coats similar to the men? Are they wearing trousers/ pants vs skirts? I just checked the Marine Shop and it looks like they are still offering the uniforms posted below.

Always liked the Army Pinks in TW. We had them as hand me downs at ROTC. Great looking uniform. But all Marine uniforms beat them by a mile with or without Sam Browne. As to cost DD spent big bucks going from Navy to Marine at USNA graduation.

Pants and skirts are issued to females. I hate skirts, so always wore the pants. But had plenty of buddies who preferred the skirts. For the most part it was rarely mandated one way or another, usually females could pick unless it was something like a change of command and you were in it. I believe the USN and USMC have gone to male covers for everyone. I know they were experimenting with the high collar dress blue and Navy choker whites for females. I will defer to Hurricane if they made a final decision on the jackets.

Females currently wear the old blues jacket like what Grunt posted except at some ceremonial posts. At some point "soon" (next year? Not sure) we'll transition to wearing the male style jackets. They also are considering changing the style of the skirts, but I haven't heard the final word on that.

With skirts no longer an optional item at USNA graduation next year, I am not sure if it will continue to be issued in the future.

Where did I put that D ring address? :bang:

Skirts were mandatory for my graduation. Choker white pants weren't issued to us as female Mids. I graduated when we all wore chokers then changed to Blues for Marines.

FEMALE CAPS. Per MARADMIN 658/13, female Marines may continue to wear either their "bucket covers" or the male service/dress frame caps at their option until the mandatory possession date. The mandatory (and subsequent obsoletion date for the bucket cover) possession date for the male service/frame cap for all Marines is 1 May 2017.

UNIFORM BOARD 216 RESULTS. MARADMIN 011/16 announces the CMC decisions for Uniform Board 216. CMC approved the adoption of the new female blue dress coat. Fielding information will be provided via separate correspondence. It will take between 24 and 36 months for the coat to be fielded at the Depot level (coats will not be available for purchase until the initial training requirements are met).

Man, the marines got their service uniform right. I think its called the service alpha? class alpha? The green jacket over khakis...looks great. Mixed feelings about the Army blues :\ Black over blue and yellow stripes looks odd to me

The jacket is dark blue. Not black. Aren't you an Army officer? That's why they're called "blues" by people who remember the uniform before it was the service uniform.

General Washington issued a general order October 1779 "prescribing blue coats with differing facings for the various state troops, artillery, artillery artificers and light dragoons. The Adjutant & Inspector General's Office, March 27, 1821 established "Dark blue is the National colour. When a different one is not expressly prescribed, all uniform coats, whether for officers or enlisted men, will be of that colour."

To the layman's eyes, the jacket is black. Looks black to me, too. The ASU is still my favorite Army uniform to wear - I feel fantastic and proud when I wear it. But I can't deny the Marines look good - its essentially what the Army's service uniform was in the 1930s and 40s. And then for some reason we ditched it in the post-war era.

The jacket is blue. Always has been. You should know what color your uniform is. It's actually more identifiably blue than the midnight blue of the Marine dress uniform.

Looks like the blue is more pronounced when you compare them side by side. I know it sounds dumb, but one of the reasons I don't want to leave the Army is because I love wearing the ASUs. They make me feel that great about the Army and I wish we would wear them a lot more often.

If we were still wearing what we are below I'd probably never leave!!!

Leave? Isn't the ink still wet on your commission?

I think both male and female uniforms are "issued" at USNA but they have to pay for them over time. Then they go USMC and have to buy all new officers uniforms and either give away what can be worn in the fleet or try to sell them to underclass? Enlisted do get theirs issued free but if I remember correctly get a small uniform allowance each year for replacements and repairs. Like they used to say when standing around in Air Force enlisted dress. When does the bus leave?

Uniform cost is taken out of Mid's pay. DD is not too happy that some uniforms they had to pay for have never been used and are now obsolete and they will need to pay for the replacements.

Welcome to the military. It's a time-honored tradition, being frustrated by pay and uniform issues that are inane.
