In other news, ammunition is so scarce right now that an 8-pound jug of Varget powder is bidding for $680.00 (so far, with 12 bids) on Gun Broker.
You can reload 2,333 rounds of .223/5.56 with that, so I guess I "get" it, but wow.

Varget normally sells for $34.50 in the 1-pound jar and $246.00 in the 8-pound jug.

Sheesh - I have A TON of .223 primed and unprimed brass in my attic from when I used to compete in NRA service rifle matches. Maybe I should sell some.

What I don’t understand is that since supply of reloading components has been so short for so many years why the F don’t the manufacturers increase production to meet the demand?

They have been ramping up production - but there are so many new gun-owners (and reloaders) now - that they are unable to keep up.

I bet if people wanted to buy more F-150’s, Ford would find a way to build them. This reloading component shortage is not new. It’s been going on more or less for 10 years. They have had plenty of time to ramp up production.

And let's hope that if this is being sold to brand-new reloaders, that they are getting their load info from a published manual and not from an internet forum. Last thing I need is someone trying out his new 'special' hot load from the stall next to me who doesn't understand the concept of chamber pressure...

If you get to my age and are affected by ammunition or reloading component shortages (which happen every few years) then you simply didn't plan ahead. No reflection on you - but after a few of those shortages - it taught me the difference between par-level and safety-level storage. ;)

While I was perusing GunBroker yesterday, I decided to look for what gunpowder was going for. There was an eight-pound jug of Varget (good for .223/5.56 and .308) that sold yesterday for $680.00.

Wow. I have two (2) jugs of Varget here at home, along with some 1-pound jars.
Before the craziness, that 8-pound jug was $180. If I sold one (and I am considering it) I could make a $500 profit.
I could wait a year or so for availability to come back.

Talk about it being "not your time..." I'm pretty confident he has been attending church regularly since, if he han't been already.

As bad as it was, just imagine if he wasn't wearing safety glasses.
