US Coast Guard Academy command master chief resigns
The reasons for former Command Master Chief Brett VerHulst's resignation remain unclear.

This never ends well.
The sequence is:
- do something unacceptable (alcohol-related incident, sex-related incident {with people you’re not authorized to or sexual harassment}), inappropriate and insensitive “-ism” acts or language, partner violence, being a screamer, failing at your job, lying, drugs, emailing while drunk and being foolish, frat with a cadet, failure to support the leadership, embarrassing the CG, etc.
- the commander loses confidence and removes the person
- person is stashed somewhere to do “special projects”
- if no criminal or administrative proceedings, a quiet retirement ceremony, instead of a large one marked with heavy attendance and senior guest speakers
Sadly, I had to remove my own CMC for one of those reasons.
I’ve also had the pleasure of having these folks stashed with me at a shore activity while they are awaiting their fate. Most notably, I had the CO of a Navy ship who offered to sell his female officers to a foreign Navy, back when female officers at sea were still rare, and the foreign Navy inquired as to whether they had any. He did this over an open circuit. Joke or not, stupid. But that’s a sea story for another day.
No doubt this Master Chief served long and honorably. The saying is one “aw s**t wipes out every attaboy.” My guess is hubris was involved somehow. It almost always is when the higher ranks break bad.
@sanman Makes me seriously reconsider the impact/warning/truth of that email that my DD received from the female officer that I shared with you. *Sigh*Agreed not good!
