The Long Blue Line

The classic cutterman vs aviator rivalry. The only time that the deckies and engineers weren't going back and forth was when we had the AVDET on board my summer cutter. :shake:

Scoutpilot: Darn near lost my lunch watching that landing. I there any way the helo could drop a line and be wenched down while the helo is at full power?

Yes. It's called a RAST. It's dangerous for the LSE and deck crew but is needed in some environments.

Keep in mind, the pilots aren't the ones rocking back and forth.

Shipboard helos are also able to hook into a talon grid in on the flight deck of many cutters/ships.

Scoutpilot: I really meant winch not wench; Freudean slip?

I'd be happy if ships still had wenches. When you get on deck all you get is a ration of **** from the squids. No rum. No wenches.

You'd better know the ship's history when you get there, too.
