The process after you accept the appointment?

I search around some, but I know this year is a little out of the ordinary in how things have been processing. My question is what generally happens after the acceptance of the appointment?
DS got his email and BFE a few weeks ago. He has replied back and emailed the address that was on his appointment letter.
He was wondering, from those that have already done so this year, would he get some type of confirmation about his acceptance of the appointment?
Also, generally what will the next steps for him be? Will he start to get some checklists or details about I-Day soon? He knows he has plenty of time until I-day just curious.
Thanks

Your son will be given a Permit to Report package, which went virtual last year.

These don’t change too much from year to year, so as a sample, I posted the Class of 2024 PTR link below.

Things to work on now: vaccinations, passport, gathering birth certificate and any other required docs.

No doubt others will pop up with suggestions.

Congratulations! I am not sure how it is this year but last year my son had to click the "accept" button in his portal and then he received a confirmation email and BFE. Assuming you have already done that, we didn't receive any additional correspondence until the permit to report package. Enjoy these last few months - summer will be here before you know it!

If your not sure if the Academy knows your accepted the appointment. Then you can go on the Admissions Chat and let them know. Congratulations and welcome aboard to the Navy family!

This may be trivial (and certainly not necessary), but if your HS has some form of senior awards/recognition, you might want to find out when (and how they do this virtually) and reach out to your school and your BGO if he would like to be recognized for the offer of appointment. Make sure this is something your son wants (not just you). For some high schools, this is a regular occurrence, but (as in the case of our high school) this may be the first time in many, many years (if ever) that a graduating senior was appointed to an SA. But again, make sure it's something he wants and not just his parents.

Passport has birthday, place and citizenship, so why the need for the birth certificate? If it is still needed in addition to an American passport, would a copy of the certificate needs to be notarized? Is there similar requirement for ROTCs?

Just follow the guidance in the PTR. Click on the link for the “booklet,” for details on required ID. Click on every link! As I noted above, this is a sample, your son has to wait for his PTR, but there is a lot of detail and To Do’s to process.

I mentioned the passport because if an appointee doesn’t already have one, they will likely need it while at USNA and later. It’s a lot easier to get it now then when they are away at USNA.

Once the email is sent to accept the appointment he/she will get a reply email from admissions. They will receive a few documents that need to be completed ASAP. One is send In an original birth certificate not a copy. USNA will mail it back to you if you send a stamped envelope. The other document is a form about tattoos etc. The other form is a police record. My DD still can’t find a police station that will accept this and complete for her. She will be reaching out to admissions after our spring break. That is all she has received so far besides the BFE which was the best day ever!!!!

One addition: have your son continue preparing for his big day and summer training. Keep running, lots of push-ups, sit-ups and overall fitness prep. The instructions from USNA will be a great guide for all of his preparations. Congratulations and best wishes to your son!
