The USAF Lobby strikes again

bruno, Scoutpilot, you guys are so harsh. You know how much those papercuts can really, really hurt.

Deployed in place

The term used to describe their situation is called " deployed in place".

They deploy all over the world to places unacknowledged, when deployed they are part of launch and recovery crews that land and take off these remotely piloted vehicles. When not actually deployed they are home doing the other half of the job to operate the sensors and employ the weapons.

We tend to give them a lot of crap as well, carpal tunnel, the causal finding of a mishap determined to be coffee spilled on the keyboard.

I am not a cyber warrior but I see how the face of warfare has changed and what you see on TV is a fraction of the capability that remotely piloted vehicles bring to the fight. Heroism, not typically, let a board of commanders who have lead in combat decide if a particular action reaches a threshold.

I believe the precedence is wrong but the medal should remain.

That's some AF political BS right there. The Marines tried calling a retreat "advancing in a different direction" but that doesn't make it anything but a retreat. There's no such thing as being "deployed in place." Deployment, by definition, means being somewhere besides your home station.

Cyberwarrior Medal Is Canceled By Hagel

Washington Post April 16, 2013

"After ordering a review of a policy announced by his predecessor, Leon E. Panetta, Hagel said Monday that he concluded no such medal was needed. Instead, he said, a "device" will be affixed to existing medals to recognize those who fly and operate drones."

I guess +1 Hagel. Hopefully, this becomes a trend.
