The Wait

I might've misheard, but I remembered when my AO called me about my appointment he said something about updating my address? Did anyone had to re-update their address once their official letter came in or was it only if you changed your address if it changed after you submitted?

I had to confirm the address for the BFE. It was an online link embedded in the appointment notification.

My DS has been denied for 2026. Excellent grades and PFE scores, no medical waivers needed. We are extremely surprised since was recruited by a coach. I am interested in what others have done in the year in between applying again. Thanks

Sorry to hear this? Which sport?

If the rejection came in today, that means EA appointments are pretty much over.

How did you hear he was denied? Thanks.

How do you know appointments are pretty much over?
Years of watching the appointment process for CGA - the last couple days before the deadline are always prep, waitlist and rejections - they often finish a day early, too. When you start seeing rejections, they have moved on to the last categories, and appointments are pretty well over. Look at previous years appointment threads and you will see the patterns - but check for the date of the actual appointment, not the date it was reported on this board.

Interesting. What are the chances of getting thrown into the regular decision mix if you’re still waiting to hear back? I applied EA, too.

Kick backs to RA are part of the final couple days as well.

I agree with @Korab about the usual flow, but it looks like appointment offers started a bit late this cycle and I haven’t seen anyone post about being deferred to RA, wait listed, or offered prep yet (unless I missed it which is certainly possible). No one mentioning those things would be unusual by now. Of course, I know this forum only represents a small fraction of the candidates, but it’s possible things are running a little later this year and there may still be some good news to come. I hope so for all those still waiting. If anyone has been deferred, wait listed, or offered prep school, it would be helpful to see that in this or a new thread, along with when you were notified, to help gauge where the CGA is in it’s process. Good luck to all still waiting!

Some people self prep at one of the few prep schools that allow for USCGA self prep, while others choose to go to a normal college. There are other possibilities which you may research, including enlisting in the armed forces, though none of the aforementioned options guarantee acceptance into USCGA or any of the other SAs. I would recommend having several plans, and I would assume that your DS has already applied to other schools (correct me if I am wrong). It is up to you/your DS which route you choose to pursue, if you so choose to reapply. A denial is unfortunate, and I am bracing for what is to come in the next few days as well, but I wish you and your DS great luck in the future. It seems like he has a bright future ahead of him regardless of where he ends up.

My DD is still hoping for good news. But we’ve already discussed alternate plans, including CSPI and the MARGRAD program at our state’s maritime academy where she has already been accepted.

I came across this book called “Where You Go Is Not Who You’ll Be” by Frank Bruni. The book was a good read and I thought I’d share an excerpt from the book on the forum. In the book, was the following letter that a parent wrote to her/his son on the night before he received his college decisions.

“Dear Matt,

On the night before you receive your first college response, we wanted to let you know that we could not be any prouder of you than we are today. Whether or not you get accepted does not determine how proud we are of everything you have accomplished and the wonderful person you have become. That will not change based on what admissions officers decide about your future. We will celebrate with joy wherever you get accepted—and the happier you are with those responses, the happier we will be. But your worth as a person, a student and our son is not diminished or influenced in the least by what these colleges have decided.

If it does not go your way, you’ll take a different route to get where you want. There is not a single college in this country that would not be lucky to have you, and you are capable of succeeding at any of them.

We love you as deep as the ocean, as high as the sky, all the way around the world and back again—and to wherever you are headed.

Mom and Dad”

Good luck to all.
