Once we get thru to DoDMERB.....

1) How far out do they schedule the physicals....?

2) Do you get to pick your physician?

3) How in depth are the physicals? Are you there for hours? I imagine the questionaire alone is quite lengthy.

Concorde is the one that arranges the doctors, etc. They will tell you where to go for Dr and eye exam. Try to take it if you can so you don't muddy the waters. Our appt was downtown Houston about 1 hour away, but the eye exam was near by the Dr. They give you the contact info and then you call those Drs and set up the appts. I suggest you make the appts as soon as you can get in.

Physical took about 1 hr, including wait time. Eye Exam about 40 minutes including wait time. Son was able to get the appts back to back so that helped.

Questionnaire is very lengthy. Pay attention to the instructions and answer honestly and with all info requested. Get a copy of your records from your doctor if you can. The doctor checked out son and then went over all the questions with him and asked a few followups. He also had a urine test. Tip: Don't workout the day before the test, you might have excess proteins in urine from working out.

k2rider - here is my son's timeline...

Dec 18 - scholarship awarded
Jan 4 - loaded in DoDMERB site
Jan 10 - snail mail brought appt instructions
Jan 12 - appts booked
Jan 25 - appts
Feb 3 - results posted on DoDMERB website

According to my son and husband, they waited 2.25 hours for the medical exam. The exam itself took 15 mins.
They waited 30 mins for the eye exam. The exam itself took 10 mins.

If you're going to schedule the eye and medical on the same day, I recommend putting eyes first. Apparently the "walk-in" nature of Concorde medical offices makes wait times there unpredictable. (That is, even tho you think you have an appointment, it's really kinda first come, first serve.)

Oh, also, we were surprised to see that parents cannot accompany their minor children into the exam rooms. You're all grown up now. [[Insert boo-hooing Mom here.]]
