To WATCH or not

We can bring a watch if it's not a smart watch and doesn't have metal. I got a Timex Ironman and I love it.

There are several threads about this, but plan on whatever watch you bring to be collected and returned to you after the end of BCT.

Just to add to the original question, can someone also hit on the pros and cons of having a watch versus not having a watch.

Furthermore, in what cases would a watch come into use? Would it be just over Basic Cadet Training or during the Academic Year and following summers as well?

Previous to this last summer, watches were collected and returned after BCT. For some reason, last year, they were allowed, I assume because of COVID and all the restriction of movement. Having a watch with an alarm to wake you up a couple of minutes prior to the loud banging wake up where you have no time to get dressed would come in handy. Also, knowing the general time of day is comforting---- I have no idea if they will still be allowed in June under the new Commandant.

During BCT your schedule is fully managed by cadre and you will not know what time of day it is outside of clocks on the wall. After BCT you are on your own and will need to ensure you can be where you need to be when you need to be there.

On my packing list for BCT, a watch is included. It specifies rubber only. I ordered a G-Force watch, which I thought was all rubber. However, it came and it had a metal clasp. I really like the watch, and the metal is minimal. Anyone have any suggestions?

You'll probably be fine. I'd guess most watches with rubber bands have at least some metal in the clasp itself.

The odds are that your watch will be taken and bagged for BCT anyway and you’ll get is back at completion.
