Hello, I recently received appointments at several service academies. I have allergies to tree nuts but it is not severe. For example, my throat will itch. I am aware that a spirit of honesty is required to be an officer in the Air Force. However, I refuse not to be able to serve because of a silly allergy. I have been instructed to take an oral food challenge. Please advise me on any way that I would be able to pass the Oral food challenge even if it means through deceit. I am very desperate at this point and honestly, I am aware that I will get comments saying how terrible I am for being dishonest but it doesn't matter. I am hoping that someone will give me advice such as taking Benadryl before the oral challenge to pass or another pill so that I may be able to get my tree nut allergy waived.

Have you spent time reflecting on why there are conditions which DQ people from serving? This is not about you. It’s not about a “silly allergy.” It’s ultimately about the people you will lead and serve alongside. And your character. If you’re willing to look for workarounds on this, where else will you be ethically elastic?

Military people generally work in cohesive units, often far from home, in harsh operating environments, far from advanced medical care. Unit safety often depends on unit physical and mental readiness, with unit security jeopardized by anyone who is not fully fit to perform or who impacts the mission due to injury or illness. This is why the accession bar is set so high for pre-comm programs. The military is looking for people in the best possible health and least likely to experience medical situations in the field.

I understand your desire to serve. Putting others before self, looking after your troops before yourself, are part of leadership.

I strongly recommend you reconsider your request for ways to cheat on the test. Take it, and deal with the consequences as a thoughtful, mature and essentially honest young adult. If you do not get a medical waiver, there are many other ways to serve the country where this would not be an issue. If the worst case happens, and your condition is not waived, then come right back here and there will be useful advice on rewarding service opportunities with the “ABC” agencies, using that formidable brain and other skills in intell, cyber, operations, logistics, forensics, etc. through college programs.

I rather hope you are a troll trying to get people spun up. Otherwise, I find this disheartening.

If you look in the DoDMERB packet as well, there's a section about the seriousness of simple allergies. Go look it up and read that through.

This specifically though... disappoints me. Like Capt MJ said, I hope you're a troll as well, USAFA doesn't want people like this in their school. For crying out loud, it's in their honor code.

We will not lie, steal, or cheat, nor tolerate among us anyone who does. Furthermore, I resolve to do my duty and to live honorably, (so help me God).

You can always apply for a waiver- maybe it won't even show up. It's pretty low to cheat on this test before even getting to the academy, and it'd suck if you got in, they found out, and kicked you out. Respectfully from a third time applicant, don't put yourself and another prospective candidate in that position.

This post is strange. Accepted in SAs already and posting an ethical question. Look yourself in the mirror and ask, “Am I honorable?”
