TWE

I so appreciate all the feedback. :) After all of the work involved in applying and having been working toward his goal of attending a service academy since he was in 8th grade, it's only natural for him (and me!) to hold on to any last hope for any way to get there this year.

From the get-go he knew that getting an appointment was more likely not going to happen than happen, but once he was informed he was fully qualified, the dream became more real to him, so it has stung a bit more than he thought. He's s doing the "woulda, coulda, shoulda" dance in his head, and trying to make peace with what's not meant to be for him this coming year.

All very normal things considering that a lot of the applicants who will hear no like he did, for them this will be one of the first times they haven't attained a goal they have worked so very hard to achieve. He does have many irons still in the fire in regard to Plans B, C, and D. He knows he wants to serve his country and he knows what he wants to study; the only thing that has changed is what road he will now take to get there. :)

@DrMom My DS received his TWE in January only a couple of short days after being 3Q. Last week he was notified he had been offered the AOG Scholarship, which he will accept. I’m sure there are many candidates that will get offered prep in advance of the TWE… he got super lucky, IMO.
What is the AOG scholarship? How is it different from regular appointment? Thanks.

My son received a TWE in his portal on April 21st, 2022 and the USAFAPS offer showed up in his portal on May 28th, 2022. Even though is a long shot never lose hope. Good luck to your son!

What is AOG ? Thanks
Association of Graduates Prep School Academy Scholars program. The AOG sponsors these candidates at a prep school for a year. The expectation is that they keep their grades up, stay qualified, and make every effort to be admitted the following year. It’s pretty much a guaranteed appointment for the following year.

Don't rule out re-applying if his heart is truly set on the academy. Taking a year in ROTC to gain some real-world experience and then attending USMA is a path that I wouldn't trade for anything, I wish everyone had some social/military/academic experience before attending directly. Best of luck!
