DS just got the email. Not accepted. This past year has been a rollercoaster of a ride but I'm so proud of him. Plan B was NROTC scholarship which we found out about a month ago that he was going to be awarded but he respectfully decided to forgo the scholarship and allow someone else to have it instead of him. As of last week he is in the DEP with the marines and leaves for Paris Island in August with a recon contract. He says he wants to work his way up to leadership and plans to make it a career. Proud momma because his twin brother leaves for Paris Island in July. Two Marines in the house, what more could their mom and dad ask for.

Congrats! I spent most of my Navy career with the USMC! There is no better way to go! DD got TWE this morning too.

Best of luck! If they are top-performing enlisted Marines, they can still get a shot at USNA via the Fleet/Corps route, if that's appealing. Prior enlisted are generally successful and respected at USNA. It's a completely different type of package requiring command endorsement.

And if you need another forum to hang out at, just google "Marine Moms," "Marine parents," "Moms of Marines" and "Recruit Parents Marine."

Thank you Capt MJ for the information. I'm sure I'm gonna need the extra info.

My best college girlfriend called me some years ago, as her two sons, a year apart in age, headed to Parris Island. She and her husband are both doctors with no family experience of the military. She was trying to be brave, even though they had raised two of the nicest and most self-reliant boys I have ever known, so I steered her off to these sites. She found some nice connections and is a savvy mom o' Devil Dawgs today. One son just got out and is using his GI Bill to finish up his undergrad degree and attend law school, because he wants to return to the Marines as a JAG. The other son shows signs of wanting to rise to the top of the enlisted ranks and loves being a Marine.

My friend now does part-time contract work at a nearby military hospital, in addition to her regular practice, because she now wants to serve in some way. She laughs and says "working around the military is my new hobby."

So sorry to see this wave of TWEs do a Monday Morning Smackdown. Best of wishes for alternate Plan success and re-apps a year from now.

"Monday Morning Smackdown".... I thought the same thing. What a brutal way to start the week...granted, many have to give their plan B's an answer one way or another this week. But it still must have been a horrible way to begin the week for these kids.

Best of luck to your 2x DS! I am very curious to see if the push by the Supe and the Dant this year to generate more interest amongst eligible enlisted has indeed increased the number of enlisted Sailors and Marines either appointed directly or offered NAPS. Who knows, maybe your 2x DS will become exactly what they are looking for (bringing in real experience from the fleet into the brigade) and find themselves appointed to a future class!

Be curious also. It can be tough to find young sailors and Marines who want to tackle this adventure. The best way to get them and the way the majority come in, an Acadmemy grad in the unit sees a young motivated kid, who is still single, no kids, and starts talking with them. If we discover they had decent high school grades and SATs we will start to talk to them about the program. I had a handful of Marines in my units who fit this, but they were married. A few went the MECEP route. In my short time in I saw two head off to USNA via NAPS. Neither had applied in high school or knew what it was. At nuke school they really look at the kids who do well there, research their high school grades and then have them apply. It's why a lot of the priors are kids straight from Nuke school. My room mate from USNA sponsors a young man who took this route after the TWE from USNA.
