Two separate essays or one?

I read some old threads regarding the essays and they had the same essay topics as this years but two essays.

The instructions says "A essay with 250 to 300 words" with the two included topics.

So does this mean a single essay with both topics or two separate ones that can go up to the max amount of words?

Unless they have changed the essay since I submitted mine about three weeks ago, there was only one essay with a 300-500 word count that asked you to discuss two separate topics over the course of those 300-500 words.
