Anyone who is not a Sea Cadet should consider it. In addition to the leadership and military aptitude it demonstrates, here is a sample of some of the incredible summer training opportunities.

These aren't exhaustive, but a good idea of some of the opportunities available. Also, being a Sea Cadet is specifically asked for on the USNA application!

DS has been a sea cadet since the age of 11. It’s an amazing program with fantastic summer opportunities. He is currently the Chief until he graduates this year.

That's great to hear! Did your son get an appointment to USNA?

I was telling another poster I just got the 2023 annual report in the mail and here are the Sea Cadet numbers for service academy / ROTC placement:

27 to USNA
9 to USCGA
8 to NAPS
5 to USAFA
3 to USMA
3 to USMMA
41 got NROTC scholarships
15 got ARTOC scholarships
7 got NROTC Marine Option scholarships
2 got AFROTC scholarships
12 went to state merchant marine academies

Pretty impressive figures. I also tell re-applicants, who often have a difficult time finding leadership opportunities when they are doing a year of college, to reach out to their closest Sea Cadet unit and volunteer as an adult leader. Re-applicants can become a USNCC midshipman and display leadership there.

Any tricks for joining SC? I have 2 sons that have been trying to join for the past 5 years. We can't seem to get ahold of anyone in our area. If we've made contact once they won't return contact. It's the weirdest thing. We supposedly have a unit here less than a mile from our house and can't get ahold of anyone.

DS is still pending and waiting but crossing fingers. Plan B is lined up with the local College NROTC Unit and if that is the final outcome he will be an adult leader with the local sea cadets as well.

When we joined we just went in to talk to someone, found out alot of information and set up a visiting day . DS loved it and never left.

I appreciate knowledge of this opportunity greatly. Didn’t know about it with oldest, but youngest is looking into it! For what’s it worth our youth wrestling room will know about it

I'm sorry that you have not received a response. That is a poor reflection on an otherwise great organization. You might try reaching out to the national headquarters. (Just go to the Sea Cadet's website.)

oh my gosh other sea cadets exist here??? anyways I work on the recruiting team with HQ so if anyone has any questions about sea cadets please ping me or shoot me a dm!! I love talking about it

Do you work with Karen?

I am a HUGE fan of the Sea Cadets! It was instrumental in my kid's journey.

I am! still havent heard anything here.
Well I'm pulling for you and I'll be praying for you!

I love to see Sea Cadets at Annapolis. You probably know my kid...made chief and did lots of trainings all over the country. Honor cadet at several of them as well.

Please keep me posted and know I'm praying for good news!
