So, I've grown sick of polishing my shoes for my squad leader to bone me for some trivial infraction... what are some good alternatives to Bates corframs that won't break the bank?? Can't afford the $140 asking price for those...

if you are a Rat- (and using the term "Bone" I believe you are at VMI. Good luck- Corfams are a no-go for Rats. As an upperclassman- a pretty simple google search on "Corfams" gives you all kinds of options other than Bates. All of them will leave your feet smelling like Loudon Wainwright's famous song:

Don't spend the money!
Suggest you limit yourself to 5 minutes per shoe per day--10 minutes total of polishing your shoes each night. Focus on your uniform for a total of 30 minutes EVERYday--the rest should be spent in your books or on the athletic fields!
If you dedicate time every single day, your uniform and your shoes will shape up!

Dude, I think you are a second now or a third based on your previous posting history. So man up and talk to your squad leader or platoon sergeant and figure out how you can maximize the 168 hours a week to prep for your Monday morning inspection. I seem to recall most of us kept two pairs of shoes, one for class and normal wear and the other for parades and inspections. Maybe a third on display in the wall locker. Either way the unique part of VMI is the class system and somewhere in your chain of command is a brother rat who should be able to help you out.

Two thumbs up to EMW above. Definitely have a face to face with your squad leader and figure this out. Good Luck!

The Bates Black High Gloss Oxford.

I think that if these were around during the Spanish Inquisition, heretics would have been forced to wear them while walking to their execution.

if you are a rat what are you doing on social forums ?? and as stated above - no Corframs for rats. Getting boned is part of the ratline.
