I received a letter in the mail, it scared me half to death because i thought it was a rejection letter!Turns out its an information to a local information session with Mids, my regional director, marine and ROTC reps. Has anyone ever gone to any of these? Is it bad for me not to go? If it is good to go and helpful, what is the attire like?
 
Yeah I went to one of those. I don't think it's bad for you to go, but it would be really helpful if you did. I mean, what do you have to lose? When I went all the academies were represented and it really opened my eyes to the other service academies. It's also helpful to be able to ask questions of the mid and BGO.

When I went, I wore jeans, but I also wore a nice collared dress shirt with it. It's not what you'd call formal, but I wouldn't dress like you were going to hang out at the mall or something.

In the area I am from (Northern Virginia) these sessions are very good, but the target audience is Juniors who should be starting the application process for next year’s class. We have several upcoming events this spring for 2010 High School graduates, Service Academy Class of 2014 applicants. There will be a lot of good information available and access to some Midshipmen is always good. But, it is far from mandatory. Dress depends on the location and time. Nice is probably the best advice. If it is being held in a more formal atmosphere (we run one in our area, that is held at a local country club) you would want to consider a sport coat and tie.

Is it well received to wear the JROTC uniform to a NA Information Forum or would that be considered inappropriate? The event is being held in a high school in the afternoon.
 
I don't know about the information forum, but I do know that when I was at the CVW in January the mids didn't like two groups of people: the people dressed like bums that acted like they didn't want to be there, and kids that were all decked out in JROTC gear...they said they were "playing sailor" and those were the kids that acted like they knew everything during plebe summer but just ended up getting everyone else in trouble.
 
yeh dont wear ur uniform man. noone likes the people that go around bragging about rotc and talking about how much they know about the military. plus in ur uniform youll stand out alot which might or might not be a good thing. ive never been there so im just assuming.
 
I went to one of these information seminars and it was great. The regional director was there and a couple of grads. After the presentation, the RC had a one on one with each of the candidates and told us specifically what we could improve on.

Edit: I just wore a shirt with jeans. Around half came in the same while others had on a collared shirt with jeans.
