Is anyone here going to be attending the In-Person Appointee Event at USAFA this upcoming Monday? I emailed the USAFA Admissions Programs asking whether Uber/Lyft has access to dropping off riders past the North Gate to Arnold Hall and I was told that they typically are. However, the Appointee Handbook says that Uber/Lyft are not guaranteed access. Should I be worried about this? I don't think that I have any other choice to get from my hotel (very close to USAFA) to Arnold Hall without Uber/Lyft.
Also, would Uber/Lyft be recommended to get from Denver Airport to the hotel (again, very close to USAFA)? Is there a cheaper option/alternative as it's about an hour ride?
Any pointers would be very much appreciated!
Thank you in advance.

Groome Transportation has shuttles from Denver Airport to The Academy Hotel, which is close to USAFA, and from there you can grab Uber/Lyft to Arnold Hall.

We're going to be going there on Monday. We're flying in late Sunday night and planning to leave Monday night. PM me if I can help you out somehow.

Did you receive any confirmation when signing up for the events? I signed up for virtual a few weeks ago but haven't received a confirmation email that I can attend.

Ha! Now that I think about it, no, we didn't receive anything...Maybe I'll call to confirm?

Can someone give detail to this appointee event? Curious about candidates that may still be Waiting to hear or at 100%?

I would use Groome to get to Colorado Springs and then Uber to the USAFA. It takes about 30 min from Academy hotel to USAFA visitor center. My cadet has used Uber to get from USAFA to COS airport.

I thought anyone can attend the virtual tour ? If a signup is required, can you tell me where to find it ? I'll tell my DS to look for it.

We got an invitation by email after receiving an appointment. My DS has never been to any other event, so maybe that's why we got it, or maybe they send to all appointees (and conditional appointees--those waiting for medical waivers). Not sure. Based on wording, it wouldn't go to those waiting for appointments :(. It gave a few different choice days that he could attend in person or virtually. It is just a few hours long with discussions with cadets and academy reps and a walking tour. I hope you hear something soon!

Thank you so much for some clarification. DD is still waiting at 100% Complete, crossing our fingers for good news soon.

The in person appointee tour was definitely worthwhile last year. We are not a military family and DS had never visited the Academy. Before going on the tour, USAFA was not DS’s 1st choice - he was fairly certain he wanted to do ROTC at a civilian school. Last year, after an initial meeting in Arnold Hall, they separated the appointees from the parents and we toured the campus separately. When we met back up for lunch, the first thing he said to me was “I’m coming here.” I was surprised and wondered what it was that convinced him to change his mind and am fairly certain that if he hadn’t visited in person he would not be at USAFA now. There’s definitely a difference when hearing about a cadet’s experience first hand, than reading about it on the website or having a parent talk about the benefits of a service academy. While freshman year is challenging, he is thriving and has no regrets.
