USAFA Combat Boots

It states that the boots need to have a waterproof upper bootie (Gore-Tex or similar) and listed Danner RIVOT TFX 8" Coyote as an option. However, unless you get the "insulated" version they are not waterproof. I am assuming they need to be waterproof?

No they don’t, I showed up with Danner Tachyons and those were great. In my opinion you don’t want waterproof ones for basic, if you are in water it’s gonna come down through the top, and if you boots are waterproof it will stay in there and make your boots heavy. They are also a lot hotter.

As a scout who got drenched last week while backpacking, I'd say don't go with the insulated version. I've got ventilated boots, which are not waterproof but they dry really quick and keep my feet cooler. They really helped and some other people on my hike had insulated boots and were not happy. If you're in wet conditions for hours at a time it won't make that much of a difference, your feet will be soaked either way, so might as well get the ones that dry out quicker.

We also got my ds the Danner Tachyons before BCT last year and he says they are the best boots. Highly recommend.

Ours loves Danner Tachyon. Tried other but loves that one.

I didn’t have waterproof boots and most people I know didn’t either. The times my boots got wet they would get wet no matter what so don’t sweat it too much.

Don't worry about them being waterproof. I use the nike SFB boots and they lasted me all through basic and most of the academic year, super comfortable!
