Hello all,

I am a prospective applicant for USAFA c/o 2022. I am currently a member of my township's EMS (Emergency Medical Services) squad. My role is to ride in the ambulance, assist patients, and transport them to the hospital. I will getting my EMT-B certification this summer. I wanted to continue this in college but I thought it would not be a viable option if I go to the academy. Recently I read online about USAFA's EMT club? Can a current cadet or other member offer some information about this club? I also heard that USAFA trains cadets and certifies them as EMTs, how would this process change if I already have my EMT cert?

Thank you!

I thought someone with a little more knowledge would jump on this, but I can tell you a little having friends that were USAFA EMTs. Basically when you join the club they provide training to get whatever the lowest level EMT certification is. I suspect you would just be allowed to begin club activities sooner if you are already certified, although likely not freshman year. Once certified there are several jobs the cadet EMTs can take. During the school year, they are assigned to work with enlisted EMTs, standing behind parades, weekly and longer ones such as acceptance day, parents weekend, etc.. (out of formation so that's a plus) and helping those who are about to or have fainted...we set a record I think with 96 fall outs during a weekly parade in service dress one year. They were certainly busy for that one. Also, during the summer they can participate in the various summer programs (basic, CST/EMT/GE or whatever field/survival training USAFA is doing these days) as medical support.

Thank you. This helped a lot!
