Hi all, I've foraged through these forums but can't quite find a lot of information on reapplicants. My DS just graduated and had applied to USAFA. He was on the official waitlist, but ultimately received his TWE. He just shared with me that he plans to reapply. I know he has to reapply to the MOCs but is a new medical and eye exam required? Also, since he doesn't start college until the fall, does he use the same letters of recommendation from his HS teachers? Or can they just update their letters? Does everyone do complete new essays? Or maybe just revise based on new lessons learned? Any insight would be appreciated.
-DoDMERB, good for 2 years, update with any changes to medical history.
-Essays, do new or significantly revised- otherwise, no growth or insights are shown.
-Noms, apply again for upcoming cycle, new essays, same rationale as above.
-He should take college courses similar to first year USAFA schedule.
-Teacher evals, time for him to scour USAFA website and contact USAFA POCs to do the legwork to determine re-applicant requirements and get the info from official sources.
-Re-applicants don’t really get looked at until first semester grades are submitted.
-CFA, re-do (I think).
-If he participates in AFROTC, he is eligible to apply for an ROTC nom.
You have the luxury of letting him regroup, organize and lead his re-attack while executing his alternate plan this coming academic year, and you can support as he asks you to as he pursues this. This will help him determine if this is what he wants, as time passes. If his alternate plan is joining the AFROTC unit at his college, he may realize he’s found his people and his place.
