USAFA & Space Force

Its funny, years ago, the Senator from Colorado (Gary Hart) wanted to change the name of the academy to something like the Space Academy. The joke was that the students would then be called space cadets. I wonder if that joke every came back with the Space Force
You have an excellent chance if you are in the top 10% at USAFA or an aero or astro engineering major.

From my understanding they plan to take about 100 cadets from USAFA each year in Space Force. It is becoming very competitive to get a slot and will probably become even more competitive in the near future. Personal interviews will weigh highly along with class rank obviously.
That is my ds's impression as well. He's trying to do "space stuff" to add to his points. I have no idea how that works but he says that participating in space activities will increase his chance for the Space Force. He was so happy to get into the space summer program.

This year there were just over 200 applicants for ~100 slots. The different jobs in the SF have different levels of competitiveness. For example, I was told there were only 4 cyber warfare officers selected this year so you would need to be one of the top 4 cadets requesting that job class to get in.

The interview makes up ~40% of the selection criteria. Academics (not OPA or class rank) takes precedence next at ~35%, followed by extracurriculars (being active in one of USAFA's space squadrons, i5 or CSOPS helps a lot here!) at ~10%, and then athletics and military comprise the final 15%. This may not still be accurate but it's what the Detachment told me at the beginning of the year.

Son just commissioned to Space Force from ROTC. Technically he commissioned to Air Force Reserves which will convert to Space Force when he gets his orders. Interesting thing about the interview. He sat in front of his computer and the questions were delivered in text on the screen. His computer monitor was on and recording him and his answers. It’s wasn’t a virtual meeting where you can see and hear the person on the other side. He was just talking to a blank screen. Very strange.
That's the same interview to get an ROTC slot for space force. My son is athletic and calls it chair force
, probably not his cup of tea. They offer scholarships too.
