USCGA Class of 2023 Waitlists

Because they like the people they made offers to better, assuming they get cleared medically. There is no "fully qualified" status at CGA - they get to pick and choose who they want for whatever reason they want.

There is no geographic requirement for CGA, although they try to be representative.

When it comes to moving people around anything is possible and probably has happened at some point, but there is a separate waiting list for CGAS, so the chances of a kid on the appointment waitlist would be offered CGAS aren't likely, or they would be on the CGAS waitlist instead.
There is no geographic requirement, however, there are definitely quotas that must be fulfilled.

Are you talking racial or geographic?

I stated in my post geographical. My thought was around like they do with members of Congress from each state.

So a DS that’s offered a Scholarship to the prep can still be offered a appointment to the Academy before a waitlist DS or someone that’s not medically qualified?

Not likely. Plan on going to CGAS. If a direct appointment gets through, then that would be a pleasant surprise.

Or would it? I've heard people describe CGAS as the "golden ticket." Prepsters are better prepared for the academy and generally act as leaders in their class.

There are no geographic quotas. They try to be representative, but no quotas. Not at all like the other academies.

Unless you got that information directly from the Admissions Department, do not use the word quota.

Just a word of encouragement for other waitlisted candidates:

Uscga.edu states that 388 appointments are offered out of 2000 applicants. From this year's applicant handbook, there are 75 to 100 waitlists. Being waitlisted goes to show how competitive you are. In fact,

(388+100)/2000=24.4%.

You are in the top 24.4% of an already competitive pool (since not just anyone applies to a SA)!

At this point, I am very doubtful to any chance that I have since I am medically DQ'd. I have been able to let go of my disappointment and actually get excited about my plan B. Thus, I am now simply rooting for the rest of you!

Godspeed for the rest of the wait!

Good luck muni I have been rooting for you since I first read your posts. If you can get medically qualified and it is dream to attend my DS self prepped at MMI and they have a really good acceptance rate as well as scholarship money available.

does anyone have any insight on the acceptance percentages over the years? I know it varies year to year, but I guess I'm getting a bit anxious.

My DS is still on the waitlist. How long we have to wait for the final decision? He is still hopeful for appointment but he needs to decide now for his plan B NROTC Scholarship. Are all waiting list will receive a final decision on May 1st? That’s kind of late for the plan B to decide. Please advise.

I would advise take plan B now. My DD was on waitlist last year, but we had plan B fully in motion by this time. She stayed on the waitlist until June 1, to no avail. Plan B was already in place, which removed a good portion of stress. She worked hard and did extremely well at plan B school, retook the ACT and improved her score, and also improved her PFE score. Her reapplication was successful this year. She is very excited to be a part of the class of 2023!

I agree with Aeroman65. I have accepted my spot for my plan B; I also made sure to let the admissions office (at my plan B school) know about the situation. I will not get my deposit refunded, but that seems like a small price to pay if I end up being offered a full appointment.

Where in the Bears Den does CGAS show, or that one ha been wait listed for CGAS? We see the letter that offers a spot on the CGAS wait list and that is it.
