DD got informed today she is going to NAPS for prep. That is great bc Newport RI is not to far from us in NY. Would love to hear anything about NAPS we should expect.

My son did CGAS at NAPS and he is glad that he did because it really helped him this year. He would say NAPS was very tough with the restrictions and learning but it really made his Swab year easier. He made great friend and he always says CG Napsters including current senior officers are always proud that they went there. It's definitely kind of a badge of pride to have attended and graduated. Lol it is tough because your DD will do 3 weeks of orientation at CGA with no phone calls till the bus ride to NAPS and then 3 weeks of Indoc at NAPS with 2 phone calls on football field for 15 minutes in week 2 and 3. Then you also won't see them till parents weekend and they wont have l8berty till then. Overnight liberty was extremely rare and even ordering takeout is difficult because the gate is so far from the dorms. You can have a vehicle during NAPS and that was a lifesaver for my son as it allowed him to get off base or even drive him and his teammates to wrestling practice. Good luck to your daughter and know that NAPS really prepares you for Academy life and though tough was a blessing for my son

Thank you. One of the reasons she put NAPs as her first choice was from what she heard from her older sister's fellow plebes at USNA. She said the NAPSTERS at USNA are a tight bunch and really leaned on each other during Plebe year.

My son still has a tight group of friends at the Naval Academy even though he is a rising 3c at CGA. The bonds they form are really strong because of the shared experiences.

Congratulations on your daughters acceptance to NAPS. I attended NAPS this previous year and I will be starting Swab summer Monday! There were 20 CG candidates in total - three females (myself and two others) and the rest males. I enjoyed my time at NAPS, although it was most definitely a challenging year! Here is some advice and things I wish I knew before attending:

- Stay positive!! It can be easy to lose sight of the end goal of NAPS, but keeping a positive mindset makes a huge difference! Focus on your grades and smile through the windy weather!
- You will get a lot of cool opportunities that are Navy geared. You will learn a lot about the Navy and Marine Corps, it is really neat!! At the end of the year, you will go to a military base and do an obstacle course & team building exercises, things that are done more frequently at the Naval Academy. Take advantage of those opportunities!
- Use EI (extra instruction) as much as you can! There are night professors that will help you through your school work and assignments. Take advantage of it!! They are there to help you!
- Liberty is not granted frequently :( During my year, we were not granted off-base Liberty until the second trimester and could not wear civilian clothing. It was kind of terrible, I'm not going to lie. You find ways to make the most of on-base Liberty though!
- Make good relationships with the USNA candidates! You will make best friends out of it! I stayed in contact with my USNA friends all summer and even visited one of them! Embrace those friendships and the cool connections you will make!

Good luck with your journey! You will make it through the year! Please let me know if you have any questions!

Great point about using extra instruction hours. It is actually tracked and shows the Academy that you are trying to utilize resources to succeed. Also using the extra instruction hours teaches your cadet to develop the habitof continuing to seek out hep during their Swab year which makes things easier.

Great advice!!!!

Does anyone have any advice about what school supplies to bring to NAPS? We found the USNA Naps handbook and its pretty specific about what school supplies are needed but I'm unclear if that applies to CG NAPS students? Thank you!

I am a USNA napster but the UGAS napsters that i have talk to bought the same school supplies that are in the handbook because it’s technically not connected to USNA or CGA and they have their own rules and supplies.
