Using scholarships at USNA

I was just offered an interview for a scholarship I applied to before being appointed to USNA! They interview the top 5 candidates and then select three to receive the $10,000 scholarship, so I have a good chance at this point. On the website, it states that the scholarship money "will be distributed directly to the institution in order to offset tuition, books, or housing expenses."

As USNA obviously covers tuition/housing is there any way I can use this scholarship if I am selected? They awarded the scholarship to someone who ultimately went to USNA a few years ago, so looking for any info on how that worked.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated!!!

Yes, the midshipmen disbursing office can accept scholarships and put the funds in your account. Then your deductions for supplies, uniforms, and services will come from the scholarship before your salary. Basically you’ll end up getting that $10k as income over your four years at USNA.

What scholarship is this? I'm 2026 and looking for any scholarships in case I don't get into USNA. Thanks!

I don't know what scholarship he is applying for but there are some that I can tell you about if your ultimate goal is to serve your country. Most notable are the ROTC, NROTC, and AROTC scholarships.

I don't know what scholarship the original poster was referring to, but one you might want to consider applying for is the Washington Crossing Foundation - wonderful group of people! The submittals are typically due in January, so too late for c/o 2025, but 2026 can keep it on their radar.
