Hey everyone,

I'm going through my congressional interviews for nominations. I put down USMA as my first choice to all my nomination sources, with USNA as my 2nd. However, I recently received an LOA to USNA. Therefore, will this LOA effect my chances for nomination to USMA, and will I be able to receive both a nomination to USMA and USNA? Although USMA is my first choice, USNA is definitely a great academy that I would be honored to attend.

Thanks!

Correction, I'm not sure if it was an LOA. On the letter from USNA, it says offer of admission with nomination.

Hunter21,

DS applied to two academies and has an LOA from one, although I do not think he has a clear number 1 like you do. So I believe he is in a similar predicament with his Rep nomination interview scheduled for next week. I have never sat on a nomination committee, but you may get a question like this - If we give you a nomination to USNA, will you attend? From your previous post, I think you have the answer to that question, and if asked, I suggest you stress your interest in USNA even though your first choice is USMA, because it didn't sound like you would be disappointed going to USNA. On the other hand, if you wouldn't be happy at USNA, and I do not think this is the case with you based on your previous reply, I would communicate your desire to go to USMA period and wait on an offer from USMA.

Also, from what I have read, it makes a difference if you are in a competitive area or not. In a competitive area, MOCs sometimes share data and limit nominations, whereas in less competitive areas MOCs may be more likely to offer nominations to multiple SAs. What state and congressional district are you in?

Again DS is in same boat, and we are praying for him thru the process. Hope this helps, and let us know what happens.

I'm in New Hampshire District 1. I received my first nomination to USMA today from my congressman. I received the Naval Academy LOA after I had my interviews with my other two MOCs, which were held in front of a USMA-specific board, so I'm really hoping the offices can comunicate with each other.
