After what's felt like a long wait, I finally received my offer of appointment to West Point! Though I had an LOA, I always looked forward to the day that I might finally receive the official notification. I am eager to go on my visit this weekend and am excited to get a feel for what life is like. I'm not really sure what I want career wise; I'm torn between flying and intelligence, but I know I am eager to serve.
Now all that's left is to hear back from USNA. I am so glad to have documented this journey on this site and can't wait to join a service academy community.

My DS is also visiting on Monday, he's looking forward to it as well. Continuing to do his due diligence on which service community fits him.

Best of luck to him with the decision! This is probably something silly to worry about if I’m going to a service academy, but I really don’t want to have to say no to anyone ):

You should spend time looking at the information available to you about the major and your sports/clubs. That is what pushed USMA over the edge for the Baby at our house—who had already accepted USAFA. (For me this was no contest but he did a lot of soul searching) if you want to fly…go to USAFA. That was my only real advice. Army Aviation slots are few & the commissioned pilots don’t fly as much for the rest of their career. So if your goal is flying, go to USAFA. Whereas West Point is West Point and presidents and leaders of public and private sector went to West Point. In addition to the service you are also picking your college so things like major, sports, & clubs matter too.

Good luck on Monday you all.

Thank you so much for this advice!

Look at it this way you are not saying no to them as much as you are saying yes to the next very well qualified student on the list who will gladly take your place.

Saying no to a coach that has invested a lot of time and effort recruiting can be tough.

Saying no to admissions should cause you no worry. They won’t care. They will just go to their list.

But you do have to say ‘No’ three times in the portal. So be ready for that. You will make someone’s dream come true!

The former is what worries me. I've built a good relationship with my FFR and she's helped me a ton throughout the process and been very supportive, so I'll feel extra bad if I do turn down West Point, but I do like this idea my saying "No" helping someone else if I do choose to go elsewhere.

One last small thing. I work in the DoD...& advise & teach & work w/ a lot of senior leaders. The quote I will share with you about deciding between two service academies is: 'You can flip a coin and you will be equally happy & successful.'
Some of you all might know who says that...but I believe it is true.
Let's hope that Bubbly Rose is inspired by magic & feels at home at West Point but either way she wins & America wins.

Last, no one can make this decision for you--not your parents, your teachers, your bf, your grandparents. This is the first monster decision of your adult life. Follow your heart.
Good luck!
