DS received a letter from USMA on 12/5 requesting that the Surgeon, USMA, review DS’s medical file for waiver consideration. It goes on to say to promptly reply with any instructions from the DoDMERB.

DS has followed up 3 separate times with DoDMERB as his portal has not updated since DQ on 11/21, but they state they have not received any requests from USMA.

We assumed that USMA would have requested review from DoDMERB when they sent DS his letter. A month has now passed, so curious to know what protocol is and any recommendations to keep things moving forward.

You’re expecting something that may not necessarily occur.. Depending on the DQ and the specialists availability and workload @ MEDDAC West Point, they may NOT request anything else. The specialist will make a recommendation to the Deputy Commander, who will finalize the recommendation, who will then tender that recommendation to the Admissions committee for a decision. Or, if it’s a specific mental/behavior health issue, it will take a much longer path outside of West Point.

Thank you, @MullenLE for your insights. No mental behavioral issues, just basic ortho surgery 3 years ago (fully recovered and without restriction) and vision (correctable to 20/20)...are you implying that a waiver may/may not be granted without further medical review or documentation?

We assumed further documentation was required to receive a waiver.

Not knowing who we’re talking about and the details of the case, YES. Waiver decisions are made everyday without waiver authorities requesting remedials. But again, without my reviewing the case, my answer is a factual generality

Thank you for clarifying. We will standby and continue to monitor the portals.
